[Beauty Tools Part 3] My Everyday Look – Make Up and Panasonic Multi-Styling Straightener EH-HW58-K

Hi girls!

Today I will be sharing with you a comprehensive step-by-step for my ‘everyday look’ which involves minimal make-up as well as styling my hair using the Panasonic Multi-Styling Straightener EH-HW58-K.

Photo 30-7-14 4 44 19 pm

Don’t we all look like this when we wake up first thing in the morning?

Dull oily skin with messy hair?

Let me show you how to achieve a presentable look, with nothing too much or little and yet still look gorgeous in a short period of time! 🙂

These are the make-up stuffs which I used.

Photo 30-7-14 5 34 05 pm

This includes of the following :-

1. Chanel Foundation Compact Powder Vitalumiere Eclat

2. Silkygirl Shimmer Duo Blusher

3. Etude House Face Highlight

4. Canmake Highlighter

5. Missha Under-eye Concealer

6. Makeon Brown Shimmer Eyeliner

5. Shimmer White Eyeliner

6. Bourjois Ultra Black Liquid Eyeliner

7. Bourjois Brown Eyebrown Pencil

8. theBalm Bronzer

9. 2 Brushes – 1 for contouring and 1 for applying blusher

First after bathing and cleansing your face thoroughly after a night’s sleep, ensure your hands are clean before wearing your contacts.

Photo 30-7-14 4 52 08 pm

I opt for a more natural looking design with enlarging the pupil effect.

Starting out with my bare face with just my contact lens on.

Photo 30-7-14 4 53 36 pm

Applying sunblock before makeup is a MUST and I’m currently using Biore UV Bright Face Milk [Pink] Sunblock with an SPF of 50++.

sunblock

Then I start applying the Chanel Compact Powder. Remember to apply it downwards as you do not want to clog your pores. Only apply upwards for substances that contains nutrients such as moisturiser and essence.

Photo 30-7-14 4 56 55 pm

Next, line your eye thinly.

Photo 30-7-14 4 59 36 pm

Photo 30-7-14 5 00 07 pm

Then draw your eyebrows.

Photo 30-7-14 5 05 04 pm

Photo 30-7-14 5 05 58 pm

Hehe, I know my eyebrows need some trimming…and recently I have hopped onto the ulzzang look for eyebrows!

And then conceal your dark circles and blemishes.

Photo 30-7-14 5 07 45 pm

Use a brown eyeliner to line your below your eyes and join them to the upper eyeliner on the sides.

And then stick on fake eyelashes.

Now this is optional, you may opt for a more simple look without putting on fake eyelashes or may prefer applying mascara for a more natural look, which I have blogged about in my previous blog post.

Photo 30-7-14 5 21 43 pm

Contour your nose if you prefer.

Photo 30-7-14 5 22 22 pm

Blend it well and apply highlighter on your forehead, nose bridge, undereyes, chin as well as on your laugh lines.

Photo 30-7-14 5 24 08 pm

Draw the inner eye corners with the shimmery white eyeliner for the innocent doe-eyed look as well as ‘open’ up your eyes, resulting in livelier eyes!

Photo 30-7-14 5 26 09 pm

Apply blusher.

Photo 30-7-14 5 27 12 pm

You may apply outwards and upwards for a slimmer looking face or apply it at the bottom of your cheekbones.

For the hair, I straightened my hair using the Panasonic Multi-Styling Straightener EH-HW58-K which generously offers a 6-in-1 styling hair designs.

Using the same method in my video tutorial and steps mentioned in my previous blog post using the Nano Straightener, slide it down straight instead of curling. This should be much easier than curling.

And…TADAH!

What does it mean to be a beauty blogger?

Anyone can be a blogger these days but being a ‘power blogger? That is a totally different issue. Being a beauty blogger is one who shares beauty tips and reviews with the readers, who are substantially females. However, that is not to say that men aren’t welcomed either since there is now a growing trend and demand by men on beauty and aesthetic services. This is understandable because everyone wants to look their best! 🙂

To be honest, I was on the verge of giving up on this ‘Best Beauty Blog’ contest because I had ZERO knowledge and experience in creating videos and editing them, as well as ZERO hands-on experience using the hair stylers. I was actually one of the few who was struggling using the styler, even during the Beauty Workshop with Panasonic Singapore. Also, you could see that I still struggled my way through in my video tutorial on using the Panasonic EH-HS95-K Nanocare Straightener. However, I did not edit those ‘NG’ (‘Not Good’) parts because I believe in putting an honest front and moreover, I am not a professional make-up or hair stylist and started off knowing zilch to creating the full works!

I pressed on not only because I love challenges but also because of the encouragements given by my family and friends. For that, I deeply appreciate it. 🙂

Because of this contest, I have learnt so much within such a short period of time.

This includes creating videos which I have been wanting to do for the longest time and now, I can start creating more vlogs! Vlogs are more useful for beauty bloggers in a way because processes of using beauty tools can be more accurately and clearly portrayed compared to using only pictures, which can be a hassle to snap at every stage. My ‘Everyday Makeup Look’ had only pictures instead of videos because I am down with a sore throat and cough. Even during the video tutorial on ‘How to put on fake eyelashes fast’, I was sick and had to suppress my cough which occurs every 10 mins or so. It was tough, I must admit. Till now, I am still suffering from a bad sore throat and cough 😦

Apart from these skills, I had also learnt and understood better issues such as the importance of networking, those who would conscientiously root and vote for you and those who aren’t that willing to do so, and also how to use the hair beauty tools which I made the effort to watch countless of videos.

I am thankful for this opportunity for being one of the finalists for ‘Best Beauty Blog’ and special thanks go out to Panasonic Singapore and OMY.sg in organising this Singapore Blog Awards. Of course, not forgetting to my voters and Facebook fans as well. ❤ 😀

If you love reading my blog and my beauty tips and reviews, do vote for me! :)

[Beauty Review] L’Oreal – False Lash Architect 4D Fibre Effect Mascara Waterproof Formula

As mentioned in my previous beauty review of Love Alpha Mascara, I’m currently using another Mascara which claims to lengthen and volumise at the same time. Definitely what I need for my short and sparse eyelashes!

My natural eyelashes are extremely short and it’s that short till whenever I try to curl, I’ll either press onto my own eyelids (OUCH!) or that the eyelashes cannot even extend to the point where it can be seen.

Don’t get what I mean?

Just take a look at the pictures below.

Photo 30-5-14 8 11 11 am (1)

Photo 30-5-14 8 12 17 am

Yeah, hello fine lines 😦

So yes anyway, that is after curling… pathetic isn’t it?

But after using eyelash serums (yeah I’m using 2, damn kiasu right?), which I will blog about in my upcoming post, my natural eyelashes have grown – lengthened and volumised! More new lashes have been sprouting out too. 🙂

Really happy about it and I thought that maybe it’s time I can try and abandon my fake eyelashes, and I have not been using them recently, unless I’m really really lazy to apply mascara and remove it after that or if I really want a more dramatic effect for events like clubbing (which I hardly go now)?

And…although many have commented that my fake eyelashes are quite natural looking, some even thought I applied mascara on my own eyelashes, I don’t like the label of being ‘fake’. And what is more amusing is that, after I have stopped using them and decided to wear them on again, I felt that my eyelids were heavier.

It’s really strange, isn’t it?

I thought that I should have already gotten used to the feeling which I really did after wearing them for so many years, and when I didn’t use them for a short while, I couldn’t get used to it. -_-”

Anyway, I read online that if you have short lashes, you should look out for those with fibre that help to lengthen your eyelashes. And if you have sparse ones, you need to volumise them.

But if you are kiasu like me (my eyelashes are actually more of the ‘short’ kind in relation to the ‘sparse’ kind), I got a mascara which consists of both functions – lengthening and volumising! Short and sparse eyelashes – I guess most Asian girls face this problem.

Oh and did I mention that even my bf has longer eyelashes than mine?!

-_-”

And we’d always joke about getting them curled by me which he agrees without any hesitation (not sure if he’s joking?!).

So anyway, here is how the L’Oreal – False Lash Architect 4D Fibre Effect Mascara Waterproof Formula looks like :

Photo 30-5-14 10 10 40 am

Photo 30-5-14 10 10 10 am

Photo 30-5-14 10 10 19 am

The wand is a straight wand and not the curved one, which I prefer.

After application of 1st layer of coat :

Photo 30-5-14 8 16 32 am

Haha, don’t ask me why they look so unbalanced. This picture was really taken after the 1st layer. I guess it must be the difference in volume of eyelashes for my both eyes. My left eye’s eyelashes are more sparse and lesser than my right eye’s 😦

After 2nd coat :

Photo 30-5-14 8 18 48 am

I know it still looks unbalanced despite the same number of coatings 😦

If you are wondering why didn’t I apply properly at the inner lashes, well that’s because they are too short to be curled! I am always having difficulties trying to curl my lashes, especially the ones near to my inner eyes 😦

A before and after comparison :

eyelash

Let’s see what I like and dislike about this mascara.

Pros :

  1. Lengthens my eyelashes
  2. Volumises my eyelashes
  3. Does not clump easily! I really like this mascara for the fact that it hardly ever clumps! Unlike the Love Alpha Mascara, but I must say that because of the natural fibre from Love Alpha Mascara, the lengthening effect it can provide is definitely better than this L’Oreal – False Lash Architect 4D Fibre Effect Mascara.

Cons :

  1. Lengthens with limitations – does not provide fake eyelash/dramatic effect. However, I’ve seen reviews that it works very well for other girls 😦 It may be because they have long eyelashes to begin with? Or perhaps they applied a thick coating? But I’m not keen in applying so many layers on my eyelashes because it looks too fake and also because…read my next point
  2. It is difficult to remove! Because it’s waterproof (which you can now tell its pros and cons), it makes it difficult to be removed. I have been using Biore Makeup remover wipes to remove them and it always takes a long time to remove them completely, compared to having fake eyelashes on. Amazingly, Love Alpha Mascara is easier to remove but I guess that’s because it may not be waterproof?
  3. Volumise with limitations as well
  4. May be pricey to some – if I recalled correctly, I got this at Watsons for around close to S$30? Love Alpha Mascara  only cost me $11.90 (without postage fees) from Qoo10, although authenticity cannot be 100% guaranteed.

For now, I’ll continue using the Loreal mascara and at the same time, religiously apply the eyelash tonic serum and patiently wait for my natural eyelashes to grow more and longer.

*crosses fingers*

4 stars

If this could really lengthen and volumise further, I’ll definitely give it a 5 star!

[Beauty Review] Love Alpha Fibre Mascara

I have been wearing falsies/fake eyelashes for quite some time now, approx for 6 years? Haha! And I’ve been wanting to stop wearing them for a more natural look but because my natural eyelashes are extremely short, I have been trying to grow them out wish eyelash serum and tonic. Results can  be said to be effective but nothing fantastic. More on that later.

While I was “window-shopping” on Qoo10, I chanced upon this highly raved mascara – Love Alpha Fibre MascaraJust so you know that this isn’t a paid advertorial or sponsorship. I paid $11.90 +$1.50 normal postage fee for it which amounts to $13.40.

A few bucks more expensive than its promo price.

Photo 15-5-14 7 09 34 pm

The packaging is indeed pretty and although there are other mascaras which comes in such packaging, this is my first time seeing this!

This is how it looks when applied :

Photo 16-5-14 12 54 55 pm

Photo 16-5-14 12 54 59 pm

Photo 16-5-14 12 56 01 pm

Now, for the reviews…

Pros :

  1. It really does lengthen and volumise your lashes
  2. Easy to apply with minimal steps
  3. Pretty packaging

Cons :

  1. I really loathe how it clumps, clumps and keeps on clumping! I’ve tried twice and 4 times altogether (because you have a pair of eyes?) but it still clumps….
  2. The correct method is to apply the fiber at mid-length and ends of the lashes but…it still clumps!
  3. 2-way method is definitely more troublesome than those mascaras which already have fibre in them – am now trying another mascara from Loreal, will blog about it soon 🙂
  4. Seller claims its authentic but I can guarantee and her attitude and customer service is not fantastic as reflected in the reviews
  5. Takes a longer time to apply compared to other mascara – definitely not for those rushing in the morning to work

Will I recommend this product?

The answer is NO.

It may be cheap but I can’t guarantee the authenticity despite the authenticity sticker and clumping mascara is definitely a BIG NO-NO! I don’t know if the problem lies with me or what but some others didn’t face this problem, and perhaps practice does make perfect…?

Beauty Review : NEW Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets

Making up to prettify yourself is one of girls’ greatest interest and hobby! Who doesn’t want to look gorgeous right? Assuming you don’t overdo it.

But what is even more important besides covering, concealing and enhancing is how your actual real skin feels and looks like.

It is horrendous to know that some girls do not remove their make-up properly or worse still, leave it on overnight because they are lazy or drunk.

No matter how bad I couldn’t hold my liquor for that night, I have always made sure that I get my make-up removed. Never have I slept with my make-up on due to laziness or because I’m drunk. Even with the dizzy spells and nauseating moments, I would still crawl to my beauty corner to remove my make-up thoroughly and cleanse my face with the facial foam, apply toner and then slap on moisturiser before I fly to bed.

The recent incident whereby I got drunk (New Year’s Day, what do you expect!), I managed to remove my make-up and cleansed my face as per normal but shockingly, I had actually forgot to remove my contact lens! Yes, I actually slept with them on for several hours before I got disturbed by my annoying full bladder.

Haha, speaks volume as to how I understand the importance of removing your make-up, no?

I have been using Loreal’s Cleansing Milk to remove my face make-up and Cyber Colours for eye make-up.

It gets quite messy because you are required to pour few drops onto your fingertips and slowly apply them in a circular motion, like how you would cleanse your face with a facial cleanser. After that, you then need to wipe them off thoroughly with a cotton pad. For my eye make-up, I would use a cotton bud filled with a drop of Cyber Colours make-up remover and then wipe off any eyeliner, mascara whatsoever with it.

I have always been skeptical about cleansing sheets due to two reasons.

Firstly, not removing your make-up thoroughly causes clogged pores which cause blemishes.

Secondly, using that to wipe your eyelid areas seem a little too rough on those delicate babies (but who am I kidding? I’ve always been so rough on my skin… =x)

Despite that, after knowing how this new improved version is highly raved by many girls, I decided to get 1 for myself.

The old version looks like this :

And the new version looks like this :

Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets Regular

photo 2 (15) photo 3 (15) photo 1 (15)

When I first saw the package, I was quite shocked and disappointed at the same time because I was actually expecting it to be much bigger. But then again, it doesn’t bother me now.

If you saw the video by Miyake, QiuQiu and XiaXue, I’m actually not as bothered about how many times do I have to wipe to get my make-up removed completely. It doesn’t matter to me.

I am more concerned if these sheets would do a clean job (pun intended).

After trying it several times now, here’s my review.

Pros

  • Fresh scent
  • Cleaning sheet doesnt dry out easily
  • Helps to remove make-up thoroughly – psst, you can test it by cleaning your whole face twice to see if there are any residue left.
  • Easy to use with less hassle compared to cleansing lotions/oil

Cons

  • May have to wipe a few times, especially on the eye areas but I think that’s because of the residue of the eye lash glue.
  • Need to be extra careful when wiping the eye areas due to delicate skin.

The aftermath after a few wipes :

10 useful tips to achieve an au naturale make-up look which men adore!

Less is more! Too much make-up piled on may backfire your plan in ‘beautifying’ yourself. Enhance your features, not conceal them, save for blemishes, that is. Here are 10 of my personal tips for the au naturale look.

I used to apply thicker and heavier make-up when I was younger and when I first explored the magic of cosmetics. I used to apply eyeliner on my waterline and then slowly ditched it and moved on to applying mascara on my lower lashes instead.

However, it has since been some time that I’ve decided to go light and easy on my make-up as I grow older. Despite that, my bf’s affirmation of beauty has helped me achieve greater confidence with lighter make-up.

On days when I’m merely heading to work and back home, I’ll have my specs on with minimal make-up on my face, which only includes the basics such as foundation, concealer (for my horrendous dark circles), eyeliner as well as light blusher on. Of course, my brows would have to be drawn too.

On days when I’ll be heading out after work, I’ll change into contacts, stick on falsies and add a little shimmery pearl white eyeliner at my tear ducts and lower eyelids. Of course, blending it well for a gentler and lighter look, but yet still able to brighten up those tired eyes.

You will only see me with heavier make-up if I go for the dope/rockchic look or for outings such as clubbing, but not always. It depends on my mood and time constraints, if any.

Other than that, I’ve learnt to discover that LESS IS ALWAYS MORE!

Don’t believe? Ask the guys! And I’m sure many of them would admit that girls with lesser/lighter make-up that looks closest to natural is more attractive than those with dramatic and heavy make-up.

Unless you’re gonna headbang and be rocking ur ass off like a rock star everyday, I suggest to tone down your make-up.

Here are 2 tips to achieve a natural look with make-up :

1. If you have great skin, try to skip the foundation and opt for a tinted moisturiser instead. And if you have blemishes, just pat the concealer lightly over them.

2. But if you must, do remember to choose the appropriate and right colour shade for your foundation. Those with wrong colour shades which can obviously be seen by comparing the face and the neck or arms would tell you that they do not look natural at all. I have seen so many girls with a shade too light from their natural colour skin, especially in photographs where the background is dark and flash lights are required. A major turn-off.

For more useful tips, read my beauty article on MFP here! 🙂

Before I forget, I know the ulzzang trend is piping hot right now and girls now dig having dark and thick eyebrows. But if you’re gonna go for the natural look, consider going easy on the tone and shade of the brows! 😉

Have fun reading! 😀

Beauty Review : Maybelline The Magnum Volum Express Cat Eye Mascara

Hello ladies! It’s been some time since I last did a beauty review and sincere apologies because I’ve been kinda busy and also lazy to try out new products! I don’t even mask at home anymore with mask sheets or clay masks! I know, I’ve been terribly lazy. And that is on top of the fact that I don’t even go for facials. Hahaha, but thank god for my naturally good skin and the Derma-X products that I have been using ever since for almost 3 months now! 🙂

Today’s review will be on mascaras! I don’t usually apply mascara because I’ll have my falsies on and that’s good enough for me. I don’t even bother to curl my own lashes, apply mascara and ‘join’ them with the falsies for a more natural look. Initially, when I first tried on falsies, I attempted to follow that step-by-step theory but has since given up because my natural lashes are so short that even when I curl them, they do not curl at all. I can’t even see any lashes exceeding the eyelids area! Moreover, I have single eyelids and so it doesn’t make any difference whether I curl them or not. Of course, if one looks closely into my eyes or from a close-up of my side view, you can see the two layers – my natural lashes and the falsies.

So, if I were to use mascaras, I would only apply on the lower lashes.

I was previously using Maybelline the Falsies Volum’ Express and Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus Mascara.

And recently, I bought a new mascara from Maybelline – Maybelline The Magnum Volum Express Cat Eye Mascara which I will be reviewing today! 🙂

Following the global success of  The Magnum Volum’ Express  mascara,  which sold  1 unit every 1.7  seconds around the world, Maybelline New York’s  eye experts   have developed yet another groundbreaking and innovative  product:  The Wild Cat Eyes  Waterproof Mascara.  In tune with the hottest  trends from the catwalk,  this newest revolution in volume mascara plumps up your lashes by up to 7 times, thus delivering the most striking of feline lashes.

Thanks to the pioneering design of the  Claw Brush and a collagen-infused formula, every lash is reached, extended, and stretched outwards. The result? Lashes that are plumped    up to 7  times the volume for a tantalizing feline gaze.

This is not the newest mascara that Maybelline has, it is actually the Maybelline New York Rocket Mascara. I looked at the info provided and thought that I am actually looking for more volumizing masacaras since my natural lashes are short and sparse, even for my lower ones. Clumping is somehow secondary.

And because of the ‘7x’ volumizing effect claimed compared to the  Falsies Volum’ Express, I decided to go ahead with this.

20130913-034036 PM.jpg

20130913-034040 PM.jpg

Its brush is slightly curve and I like it that way because I find it easier to apply compared to those straight ones, especially when applying on the lower lashes, it gets quite tricky. Of course, you may use a name card and place it under your eyelids and lashes and apply, so that it would smudge or touches your skin.

And the result?

20130913-034030 PM.jpg

You can see there are still clumps here and there, especially on my left eye. Actually, it was more clumpy previously and I decided to retry.

It is true that by shaking your hand, or rather the mascara applicator stick left and right prevents clump. I do it the lazy way, I tried to shake my head left and right instead. HAHAHAHA.

And it works. The picture above is actually the aftermath of that and it is less clumpy, as seen from my right eye (on ur left).

I think it is still too early to accurately review if this mascara causes clumps or not because it also depends on one’s skills. I shall continue to use that ‘shaking’ technique when applying so as to provide a more accurate review that is justifiable to the product.

Apart from that, it does help to volumize and lengthen the lashes. Actually, more of the latter. But 7x seems a little too overzealous and exaggerated because I don’t see much difference compared to the Falsies Volum’ Express. But if I recall correctly, both of them cost the same.

What’s in my make up pouch?

First row (left to right) :

  • Contact lens cases (1 to 2) – So that I can remove them whenever my eyes feel dry and tired
  • Mentholatum Therapy Lip Balm – Been using this for almost a decade (GASP!) and I like the minty feel on my lips. I am prone to cold sores (Attracted this several years ago) and it helps to soothe the itchiness. But I’ve observed that I can’t wear this to sleep because it triggers my cold sore when I wake up in the morning, which the reason, is still a mystery…
  • Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm (Smoothing Cherry and Cherry Velvet flavours) – I like the shine it produces which Mentholatum doesn’t offer. Oilier than Mentholatum too.
  • Contact lens solution – Carry around a small one and I even have a big one at my office too!

Feel free to share what’s in your make up pouch and essentials which you can’t leave home without! 😀
