[Beauty Tools Part 2] Enjoy a relaxing facial spa at your cosy home using the Panasonic nano steamer EH-SA31!

If you are like me, who do not like to sign up facial packages with beauty salons or love having a little spa of your own at your own cosy house, then you should continue to read why this beauty tool, Panasonic nano steamer EH-SA31 works best for you!

My skin condition has deteriorated ever since I have started working as I am always in an air-conditioned room for several hours. Furthermore, being a coffee-addict does not help either as caffeine dehydrates your skin 😦

These 2 factors have aggravated my skin condition, causing it to be dry most of the time.

What is so special about this nano facial steamer?

Similar to the workings of the Panasonic EH-HS95-K Nanocare Straightener which I mentioned here, this nano facial steamer contains nano water particles which are able to reach even the deepest layer of keratin to achieve deep moisture retention and effectively stimulates growth of collagen & increase quantity of collagen!

Panasonic-Facial-Ionic-Steamer-12

With the consistent usage of this nano facial steamer, you would be able to achieve :

– More well-hydrated skin as it helps to effectively moisturize the dry skin

– Less production of oil sebum which means less oily skin

– Strengthened skin resistance and suppleness

– More tender and smoother skin as it refines your pores

You will just have to fill this container which is located at the back of the steamer to your own water level preference.

Photo 29-7-14 8 43 08 pm

After that, switch on the power and start relaxing in your own heavenly spa!

Photo 29-7-14 9 52 52 pm

Prior to using the steamer, I have exfoliated my face using the St Ives Brightening Scrub to scrub all dirt and to open up the pores.

After which, I then proceeded to steam my face with the nano steamer since the nano water particles can enter even the deepest layer if your skin. Thus, by exfoliating first, the pores are opened and this allows an easier entry of the nano water particles to penetrate into the skin layers, achieving maximum hydration.

Facial steamers also come in handy if you are intending to mask after that as it open up the pores as well, allowing a better absorption of the rich essence from the mask.

As for me, because I noticed that there are several annoying blackheads which popped up on my nose recently, I decided to banish them using Leaders Insolution Blackhead Clinic Sheet + Pore Tightening Serum. Yes, it is a 2-step treatment.

Photo 30-7-14 2 12 53 pm

Ensure that your nose and cheeks areas are damp so that the pore sheet will be able to stick on well and the nano facial steamer does that work for you as it leaves your face damp after math!

And the results?

Photo 29-7-14 10 31 34 pm

Photo 29-7-14 10 31 50 pm

Don’t we girls just love to see how many black and whiteheads have been pulled off? Muahaha!

After which, you would have to apply a thin layer of the pore tightening serum.

Photo 30-7-14 6 36 22 pm

Photo 29-7-14 9 22 44 pm

A before-after comparison :

nose

The nose after removing the blackheads really does have obvious positive results! The pores on the nose as well as on the cheeks have also shrunk. 🙂

So you can see that the Panasonic nano steamer EH-SA31 not only helps to hydrate your skin effectively, helping it to revitalise but is also a useful preliminary step apart from exfoliating your skin before masking!

Now you can banish those black and white heads even more effectively using the Panasonic nano steamer EH-SA31

Say HELLOOOOO to flawless skin! 🙂

[Tutorial] How to style your hair with Panasonic EH-HS95-K Nanocare Straightener

Are you the sort who desires different hairstyles for the different outlook of the day like me? And is it too much hassle to head down to the hair salon every time you fancy a different hair style?

Or perhaps the money spent on salon services could be money well-spent else where?

Then you are in luck because in this blog post, I will be providing a video tutorial (which is way easier than just pictures alone) on how to style your hair using the Panasonic EH-HS95-K Nanocare Straightener!

In my previous blog post, I have touched upon how this Panasonic EH-HS95-K Nanocare Straightener is Panasonic’slatest hair beauty tool which does not dry out your hair while styling!

I had fun practising with the Panasonic EH-HS95-K Nanocare Straightener, going from this :

To this :

loose curls

Check out my video tutorial below on how to style your hair using the Panasonic EH-HS95-K Nanocare Straightener!

Here are some beauty tips to bear in mind :

  1. Ensure that your hair is dry, please do not style if your hair is wet
  2. Comb your hair before styling
  3. Separate your hair into portions, especially if you hair is very thick
  4. Heat protective spray is a must before using any styling tool
  5. Start curling by grabbing the middle portion of your hair bundle, leaving sufficient space to twirl twice without burning yourself, especially near your ears area
  6. Ensure your hair bundle is taut so that they will not fall out of the ceramic plates when coiling
  7. Check to see if all hair is curled properly
  8. Use a hair setting spray/apply hair pump to set your curls

I hope you enjoy watching the video! 🙂

[Beauty Review] Biore UV Bright Face Milk [PINK] Sunblock SPF50PA++

I must admit that I was one of those lazy ones who couldn’t care less about applying sunblock and its importance. I have had freckles on my face for the longest time ever known, like since young? It could be because I used to be quite sporty back in my teens (yeah I know, it was that long!) and I was frequently under the sun. I used to be quite tanned to be honest.

By now, I hope you girls know the importance of applying sunblock before heading outdoors, if not you should really google all about it!

Anyhoo, I guess the freckles stuck by me for the longest time (sounds so wrong?) and till date, I still have them. Speaking of which, I hope I’ll be able to laser them off soon or something but honestly speaking, lasering my face is so much scarier than lasering off my birthmarks on my body?

It was only until recently I decided to be more diligent and apply sunblock lotion before applying my foundation. I’m using Chanel compact foundation powder by the way that includes an SPF of 20. I was using Sunplay SKIN Aqua UV Moisture Milk SPF50 PA+++ and DrX’s Non-tinted Sunscreen SPF 30+ (5A) 60ml.

Recently, I ordered this Biore sunblock from Qoo10 and I’ve been loving it ever since! Never regretted.

Photo 5-6-14 8 16 23 am

With the constant lack of sleep, my skin loses its radiance easily and the lack of luster inevitably results in dull skin. That was the reason why I choose ‘bright skin’ instead of the rest.

Photo 5-6-14 8 11 45 am

Now, on to my face.

These pictures are totally unedited, except to sharpen its resolution (because my iphone camera sucks).

Sigh, just take a look at all my ugly freckles and huge pores… 😥

After application of foundation powder :

Photo 5-6-14 8 19 04 am

Now, for the pros and cons.

Pros :

  • It does brighten up your skin instantly after application
  • It has quick-absorbent properties
  • Non-sticky

Cons :

  • Dries up pretty fast so you will have to apply quickly all over your face
  • The price difference between retail and the Qoo10 shop which I got this sunblock from is like what, a few bucks? I only realised it when I happen to chance upon it at SaSa which is selling at $15+. Not sure about other retail shops though.
  • Too small a bottle, wish it came in bigger size like its blue version (Sunplay SKIN Aqua UV Moisture Milk SPF50 PA+++)

Overall rating :

4 stars

[Beauty Review] L’Oreal – False Lash Architect 4D Fibre Effect Mascara Waterproof Formula

As mentioned in my previous beauty review of Love Alpha Mascara, I’m currently using another Mascara which claims to lengthen and volumise at the same time. Definitely what I need for my short and sparse eyelashes!

My natural eyelashes are extremely short and it’s that short till whenever I try to curl, I’ll either press onto my own eyelids (OUCH!) or that the eyelashes cannot even extend to the point where it can be seen.

Don’t get what I mean?

Just take a look at the pictures below.

Photo 30-5-14 8 11 11 am (1)

Photo 30-5-14 8 12 17 am

Yeah, hello fine lines 😦

So yes anyway, that is after curling… pathetic isn’t it?

But after using eyelash serums (yeah I’m using 2, damn kiasu right?), which I will blog about in my upcoming post, my natural eyelashes have grown – lengthened and volumised! More new lashes have been sprouting out too. 🙂

Really happy about it and I thought that maybe it’s time I can try and abandon my fake eyelashes, and I have not been using them recently, unless I’m really really lazy to apply mascara and remove it after that or if I really want a more dramatic effect for events like clubbing (which I hardly go now)?

And…although many have commented that my fake eyelashes are quite natural looking, some even thought I applied mascara on my own eyelashes, I don’t like the label of being ‘fake’. And what is more amusing is that, after I have stopped using them and decided to wear them on again, I felt that my eyelids were heavier.

It’s really strange, isn’t it?

I thought that I should have already gotten used to the feeling which I really did after wearing them for so many years, and when I didn’t use them for a short while, I couldn’t get used to it. -_-”

Anyway, I read online that if you have short lashes, you should look out for those with fibre that help to lengthen your eyelashes. And if you have sparse ones, you need to volumise them.

But if you are kiasu like me (my eyelashes are actually more of the ‘short’ kind in relation to the ‘sparse’ kind), I got a mascara which consists of both functions – lengthening and volumising! Short and sparse eyelashes – I guess most Asian girls face this problem.

Oh and did I mention that even my bf has longer eyelashes than mine?!

-_-”

And we’d always joke about getting them curled by me which he agrees without any hesitation (not sure if he’s joking?!).

So anyway, here is how the L’Oreal – False Lash Architect 4D Fibre Effect Mascara Waterproof Formula looks like :

Photo 30-5-14 10 10 40 am

Photo 30-5-14 10 10 10 am

Photo 30-5-14 10 10 19 am

The wand is a straight wand and not the curved one, which I prefer.

After application of 1st layer of coat :

Photo 30-5-14 8 16 32 am

Haha, don’t ask me why they look so unbalanced. This picture was really taken after the 1st layer. I guess it must be the difference in volume of eyelashes for my both eyes. My left eye’s eyelashes are more sparse and lesser than my right eye’s 😦

After 2nd coat :

Photo 30-5-14 8 18 48 am

I know it still looks unbalanced despite the same number of coatings 😦

If you are wondering why didn’t I apply properly at the inner lashes, well that’s because they are too short to be curled! I am always having difficulties trying to curl my lashes, especially the ones near to my inner eyes 😦

A before and after comparison :

eyelash

Let’s see what I like and dislike about this mascara.

Pros :

  1. Lengthens my eyelashes
  2. Volumises my eyelashes
  3. Does not clump easily! I really like this mascara for the fact that it hardly ever clumps! Unlike the Love Alpha Mascara, but I must say that because of the natural fibre from Love Alpha Mascara, the lengthening effect it can provide is definitely better than this L’Oreal – False Lash Architect 4D Fibre Effect Mascara.

Cons :

  1. Lengthens with limitations – does not provide fake eyelash/dramatic effect. However, I’ve seen reviews that it works very well for other girls 😦 It may be because they have long eyelashes to begin with? Or perhaps they applied a thick coating? But I’m not keen in applying so many layers on my eyelashes because it looks too fake and also because…read my next point
  2. It is difficult to remove! Because it’s waterproof (which you can now tell its pros and cons), it makes it difficult to be removed. I have been using Biore Makeup remover wipes to remove them and it always takes a long time to remove them completely, compared to having fake eyelashes on. Amazingly, Love Alpha Mascara is easier to remove but I guess that’s because it may not be waterproof?
  3. Volumise with limitations as well
  4. May be pricey to some – if I recalled correctly, I got this at Watsons for around close to S$30? Love Alpha Mascara  only cost me $11.90 (without postage fees) from Qoo10, although authenticity cannot be 100% guaranteed.

For now, I’ll continue using the Loreal mascara and at the same time, religiously apply the eyelash tonic serum and patiently wait for my natural eyelashes to grow more and longer.

*crosses fingers*

4 stars

If this could really lengthen and volumise further, I’ll definitely give it a 5 star!

[Beauty Review] Love Alpha Fibre Mascara

I have been wearing falsies/fake eyelashes for quite some time now, approx for 6 years? Haha! And I’ve been wanting to stop wearing them for a more natural look but because my natural eyelashes are extremely short, I have been trying to grow them out wish eyelash serum and tonic. Results can  be said to be effective but nothing fantastic. More on that later.

While I was “window-shopping” on Qoo10, I chanced upon this highly raved mascara – Love Alpha Fibre MascaraJust so you know that this isn’t a paid advertorial or sponsorship. I paid $11.90 +$1.50 normal postage fee for it which amounts to $13.40.

A few bucks more expensive than its promo price.

Photo 15-5-14 7 09 34 pm

The packaging is indeed pretty and although there are other mascaras which comes in such packaging, this is my first time seeing this!

This is how it looks when applied :

Photo 16-5-14 12 54 29 pm

Photo 16-5-14 12 54 55 pm

Photo 16-5-14 12 54 59 pm

Photo 16-5-14 12 56 01 pm

Now, for the reviews…

Pros :

  1. It really does lengthen and volumise your lashes
  2. Easy to apply with minimal steps
  3. Pretty packaging

Cons :

  1. I really loathe how it clumps, clumps and keeps on clumping! I’ve tried twice and 4 times altogether (because you have a pair of eyes?) but it still clumps….
  2. The correct method is to apply the fiber at mid-length and ends of the lashes but…it still clumps!
  3. 2-way method is definitely more troublesome than those mascaras which already have fibre in them – am now trying another mascara from Loreal, will blog about it soon 🙂
  4. Seller claims its authentic but I can guarantee and her attitude and customer service is not fantastic as reflected in the reviews
  5. Takes a longer time to apply compared to other mascara – definitely not for those rushing in the morning to work

Will I recommend this product?

The answer is NO.

It may be cheap but I can’t guarantee the authenticity despite the authenticity sticker and clumping mascara is definitely a BIG NO-NO! I don’t know if the problem lies with me or what but some others didn’t face this problem, and perhaps practice does make perfect…?

Goodbye Braces – Underbite problem solved!

I AM UGLY BETTY, NO MORE!!! HOORAY!!!

Most people I know commented on how much they miss their braces once they are removed but not me! I will NEVER EVER miss it, not even a single bit and today, may I present you my ‘new’ set of teeth!

Apart from realigning my teeth, setting it straight and helping me to overcome my underbite problems, I have never liked them. I mean come on, who does right?

Pain from tightening, ulcers, cuts, food getting stuck in between teeth, annoying elastic bands..you name it, I have it. I guess that’s pretty common for most wearers but what about this?

grey Updates on My Braces Journey for my Underbite

Of course, this picture doesn’t exactly paint the full picture of what happened and it only captures the aftermath.

What really happened : the frenulum of my tongue got caught on one of the hooks of the braces at the back of my mouth.

grey Updates on My Braces Journey for my Underbite

So obviously I couldn’t be expected to be snapping away of what exactly happened at the time of incident right? I was wailing in pain and panicking like mad, and was extremely in fear as I was alone during that time.

After the physical pain was relieved a little (as the frenulum continued to hurt the days after), I had to be financially ‘exploited’ by the private hospital I went to remove the frenulum off the hook which costs me $200+! And well, the whole procedure didn’t even take more than 5mins! WTF seriously.

Now, that’s something I bet you have not come across. Even my dentist hasn’t and perhaps I may be the one and only in this world who experienced this unlucky encounter.

So these are the last pictures you will ever see me with braces on :

(Pardon for the unsightly pictures with food stuck in between my teeth)

I went from this :

BRACES

To this :

My retainers which cost me $300! I was advised to wear them for 4 months 24/7 (full time) then only am I allowed to wear them only during sleep.

Photo 23-4-14 2 15 20 am

Photo 23-4-14 2 15 56 am

I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY THAT THE BRACES ARE OFF!!! I AM NOW A CLASS I INSTEAD OF A CLASS III (UNDERBITE) MALOCCLUSION!!!

But for now, after not smiling with my teeth for 26 years, I will have to practise more now with the mirror…..

In any case you guys are interested, I did my braces with Dr Timothy Lim from Q&M Dental Clinic. I usually patronise the Bedok branch but I know he runs around other branches too like Centrepoint, Bugis, Bukit Batok…

Don’t be mistaken, this is neither a paid advertorial or sponsorship, and I don’t gain anything from this. Just that I realised that there are actually many people out there facing the same underbite problem as I did too, so hopefully this would be of help to you guys.

I did not get my jaw corrected too to overcome this underbite problem and as I have mentioned previously, I am just PLAIN LUCKY.

Please seek professional help to have your condition assessed as different individuals have different set of problems, and for some unfortunately, having only braces may not solve your underbite problem.

Total charges :

Braces – $4200 excluding GST

Retainers – $300 excluding GST

Misc – $10 per visit for sterilisation and disposable charges

X-ray – I cannot remember how much but you will have to get this done before putting on braces

Fillings – I was charged $70/tooth – but I guess it varies

For cleaning/polishing/whitening/other services, please inquire with them.

SAY CHEESE!!!

photo 1 (48)

I have been receiving queries as to the address of the dental clinic where I had my braces done by Dr Lim which I have also included in my previous blog posts. Nevertheless, for the benefit of the doubt, here is the address.

Please note that Dr Lim drops by different Q&M branches on different days so it’s best you check with them directly. From what I know, he’s stationed at Bedok on Wednesdays, Centrepoint branch on Thursdays and Bugis branch on Saturdays. He goes to Bukit Batok as well but it’s best you check directly with the receptionist.

With Sculptra Treatment, I look younger with fuller cheeks now!

It’s been only 5 months since my 1st session of Sculptra fillers with Celevenus Wellness & Aesthetic Clinic and I have undergone a total of 3 sessions thus far. Results have indeed been very promising and effective.

Read here for my previous sessions :

1st Sculptra treatment session

2nd Sculptra treatment session

3rd Sculptra treatment session

Sculptra is a type of filler, injected with  l-poly-lactic acid to help stimulate and encourage facial growth via natural collagen production. By ‘natural’, it means that the collagen formed comes from your own tissue. Besides being able to achieve facial volume, Sculptra is also able to target other common areas due to loss of facial volume and ageing problems such as wrinkles, folds and skin laxity.

The effect of Sculptra is more natural looking than what Dermal Fillers (Hyaluronic Acid), dermal fillers are not able to create this much of volume as well.

These pictures would portray the obvious differences and effective results I have enjoyed from my Sculptra treatments.

Please note that pictures are left unedited except for brightening effects due to bad lighting in the background and poor resolution.

without smile

I took these 2 pictures above for comparison mainly because I am not smiling in them, which gives you a clearer perspective of how much volume my cheeks have been effectively filled via Sculptra.

And because I have finally removed my braces recently, apart from being able to smile more confidently with my teeth, I need not worry about my sunken cheeks anymore!

[Beauty] Have you heard of ‘Botox’ for your hair? Fluff Hair Room

I have been dyeing my hair for years till date and it is no wonder my poor mane dries up easily and quickly due to the chemicals used.

Photo 19-4-14 6 14 53 pm

I realised that using hair treatment products at home such as hair conditioners, be it wash-off or leave-on or even hair mask do not work exactly well.

This brings me to my main topic of ‘Hair Maintenance’ and you should consider pampering your tresses approx once every month with hair treatments by notable hair salons.

Just last week, I dropped by Fluff Hair Room (what a cute name, isn’t it?) to have my hair treated.

[Beauty] How to make your DIY Gel Nails last?

Gel nails have their pros and cons but one of the main reason why girls have their nails done in gelish nail polish is due to the durability. Gel nails are known to last longer than normal nail polishes, although they are more harmful due to curing under UV/LED light.

Apart from having my manicure sessions done at nail salons, I like to DIY them myself.

These are the tools which are required :

grey DIY gelish nails x normal nail polishes

I have blogged about them before earlier on, so do take some time to read here before moving on, especially if you are new to this 🙂

I get most of my stuffs from Qoo10 and they aren’t expensive.

Although the quality of the nail polishes make a huge difference, I realised that some cheaper gel nails (authenticity unverified though) can last too! I know how expensive it is to have manicures done every now and then and also how pricey gel nail polish brands such as Gelish Harmony, Artistic, Red Carpet are…

I have soft and brittle nails (natural and due to wearing nail polishes too long) and often experience breakage and chipping. Furthermore, recently I have been suffering from short lifespan of my gel nails as they peel easily. And I don’t mean like chipping off bit by bit, it’s like the whole piece of nail polish peels off from my whole nail bed!

It’s definitely annoying especially since it can occur few hours or the day after my DIY manicure! Not to mention, it is also very unsightly. #OCD

So here are some useful tips which I have discovered that would help you achieve longer lasting gel nails :

1. Remove your previous manicure properly. I didn’t really follow this because most of my gel nails were able to peel off, so I took the easy way out and peel them all off, although not advisable. Heh.

2. Buff and file your nails.

3. This is the most important step. I skipped this step previously and that was why my gel nails kept peeling off. Cleanse the nail bed thoroughly with Acetone.

4. Apply pH bond. I used to think applying pH bond was sufficient and never really thought that there might be some residue left from my previous session despite peeling them all off.

5. Do not allow the nail polish to come into contact with your skin. If it does, remember to WIPE IT OFF BEFORE YOU CURE IT. This is because curing your nails under the UV/LED lamp ‘seals’ the nail polish and hardens it, thus making it difficult for you to salvage it without removing the whole nail polish again. Any ‘gaps’ will cause your nail polish to chip/peel.

6. Apply an additional layer on your finger tips to ‘seal’ the whole nail bed.

7. Apply an additional top coat and cure it for a longer time (optional).

Here are some of my humble works thus far :

Hope you enjoy them and thanks for reading! 🙂
