Life as a model for a day

This is a post-event entry and I have been receiving queries about my recent expedition of being a ‘model’. I added inverted commas because I don’t consider myself as one and the girls whom I’ve ‘modelled’ with aren’t professional models too.

I know this may come as a surprise to some of you guys because Model and Jean does not coincide and gel very well. LOL, I know I get it.

I have mentioned this before and I will say this again. At the end of the day, I’m not looking for a career in the modelling industry, even if I am, I guess I may most probably not cut out for it. I only wanted to challenge myself as well as to gain some insight and experience as a model. Of course, make new friends too! 😀

But anyway, I’m here to share about my experience of being a ‘model’ for a  day.

The fashion event was Fashvacation’s 2nd event Fashion in a City at The Co Singapore where the models were donned in gorgeous apparels by local brands and designers.

Here are the participating brands for this Fashion event : Fashion in a City at The Co Singapore!

kisslocke
Envet
Mint & Ooak
Dodt
Decemberxvii
Fabuloxo
Simplyprettiebags

Now for the experience…

First and foremost, I must say that it really isn’t easy being a model, what more for professional models. The event started officially at around 10am for media preview but we had to reach there by 8am for preparation, i.e. make up and hairdo. It was quite tiring because I bet most of us did not have sufficient rest the night before since it was TGIF! I cabbed down with my tired face and sleepy brain and waited for my turn to be ‘beautified’.

I wasn’t exactly very satisfied with the makeup and hairdo though, but I shan’t touch on them much.

Walking 3 shows could not be more taxing than those who walked like 5 or 6. Especially for those girls who modelled 1 brand after another consecutively can be very scary because you will have to change real fast. While most of them have more experience than me, there are a few who kept quite calm even when rushing. And because I was not walking for the 2 brands which they were, I stood there observing how things were done.

Walking the 1st time really made me all glittery…even when it was a small stage event kinda thing, my hands were reaaalllyyyyy cold and I was pacing around and freaking out.

3 things were on my mind :

1. What if I fall, especially when we had to stop and pose?

2. What if I did the wrong choreography? Because there were diff choreo for diff brands…and we had to remember where to pause and pose.

3. How should I smile? With or without teeth? I still have some issues smiling with my teeth even though I’ve removed my braces….I know right, it’s so sad. 😥

Sure, there were some hiccups and all….but I guess I did manage to snag some good experience from this event and here are the pictures!

Mandatory Group picture after the event!

My sister, bro-in-law, my niece (who was fast asleep after I was done) and my bf came down to support me! My colleague and her bf who are both awesome photographers were there too!

Thank you so much guys for taking the time and making the effort to sacrifice part of your precious Saturday to support me!!! Really really appreciate lotsssss!!! LOVE YOU ALL!!! ❤

My First Fashion Event as a Model

I know this may come as a surprise to some of you, I too am surprised myself that I actually agreed to take up this assignment. It is going to be a challenge indeed and those who know me well, would know that I love challenges. I like accepting challenges and giving my best to accomplish them because the sense of achievement is something which money can never buy.

I have been rather busy and packed for these 2 to 3 weeks as I have taken up extra assignments on my own (more on that soon!) and one of them is my first fashion event which I will be modelling for. I have attended a few fashion events before but as part of the audience and not as a model.

Before agreeing to participate for this event, I actually took some time to consider carefully because modelling wasn’t really my thang. It gives me a bad impression being a model, but yeah I guess I was just being biased. I usually shun assignments that depends heavily on beauty (oh the irony of being a beauty blogger?) because I never want to be looked upon as a bimbo. I guess I’ve gotta change my mentality on that now because taking up this modelling assignment actually allows me to learn several things which I believe would benefit me. Am trying to be positive here, haha. I will be blogging about the post-event filled with pretty pictures, hopefully! 😛

So yes, if you would like to see me strut officially for the very first time, please feel free to make it for the event!

Food Review – Le Chocolat Cafe + Updates

Last Sunday saw me snacking and chillax-ing with the bf  at Le Chocolat Cafe at Ann Siang Road. Before that, we were around the corner at Keong Saik Road for food tasting at Moojaa, Mookata Thai  BBQ Steamboat. I was very honored to be invited for food tasting (my first!) and many more to come (pending plans). Will be blogging about it soon, once I retrieve the pictures from my Canon G1x – woes of wanting high quality reso pictures but attached with the hassle of extracting it from an external source – unlike instant uploading, posting and transferring into my exploding dropbox folder via iPhone. Heh.

Bf is the adventurous sort and he has been wanting to explore Ann Siang Hill/Road for the longest time. We have plans to explore other areas too! Because Singapore is too boring, exploring is fun! For me, I am the boring old fart who prefers consistency and totally not adventurous. I don’t like trying out new things. Take for example my food choices. I can eat and drink almost the same thing over and over again and not wanting to climb out of my comfort zone. Whereas for bf, he likes trying new things so in a way, we complement each other! 🙂 They say opposites attract, anyway don’t they?

Not wanting to spoil the mood, I “trekked” Ann Siang Hill. Okay, fine, it’s just some small slightly elevated relief area. But thank god I was in flats, if not !@#$%

We toured around quite a while, snapping pictures and all before deciding to settle down at a cozy cafe – Le Chocolat Cafe 🙂

Photo 23-06-2013 08 20 43 PM

Didn’t manage to snap pictures of the whole cafe. Was too embarrassed to do so in public…And that’s bf’s half face lol =x

Latte, Rainbow Cake with Choco Fudge and Mocha Frappe

Photo 23-06-2013 08 39 29 PM

I squealed at the sight of the rainbow cake! I saw many people posting pictures on it because and others who even baked them own (I can’t cook for nuts! Well, except maggie mee :D)

But but but, I think it’s quite over-rated! I went ahead for it even though its quite pricey – $7.90 per piece, because I wanted to try! Bf’s adventurous disease passed on to me, lol =p

I tried a few mouthfuls, and then told bf, “feels like eating the colouring leh…” which he agreed.

I didn’t quite like the ‘artificial’ colouring taste 😦

Photo 23-06-2013 08 36 44 PM

Photo 23-06-2013 08 23 12 PM

I think I look damn ugly in this picture, especially my nose. Ugh. Nose fillers, anyone? LOL.

Bf’s latte tasted not bad, my mocha frappe was okay too. Perhaps I should have requested for no whip cream. And I didn’t know mocha frappe could last me throughout the night, well almost, that I suffered from insomnia that night! UGH!

All in all, Le Chocolat Cafe is a good place to chill if you don’t mind spending that extra cash 🙂

Trying my best to suck my tummy in….HAHAHA.

Oh and before I forget, I’ve been sponsored with DRx products!!! Read alot of raves about their products, especially on the Comedone Formula (CF) which supposedly remove blackheads and whiteheads! Also, my dermatologist – Dr Yanni (young pretty lady) complimented on my skin condition!!! Yes!!! I’m so happy and it’s been silently whirling inside my head ever since my last visit. I am truly blessed with good skin by nature 🙂

That could also be the reason why the number of products sponsored are lesser than other bloggers’. On top of these products, I am also given the (all not in picture) X cream (to remove acne marks – due to my acne breakout caused by stress/skin biotics/SK II products) as well as a strong lightener (for my birthmarks) and eczema ointment (complained about my cold sore problem and guess what, after applying the ointment, my cold sore hasn’t been ‘activated’ ever since!!! Damn happy abt it because this means less embarrassing moments of having sausages lips! Google cold sore but don’t judge me on this. Had this cold sore problem since sec sch days. Most prolly transmitted through bacteria via saliva.)

My main purpose of dropping by DRx Clinic was actually to remove my birthmarks. I have 3 in total – left elbow which is the size of a 50c coin, 1 HUGEASS one on my left inner thigh which is heart-shaped – yes I kid you not and another lighter, in fact, the lightest on my right thigh – also the size of a 50c coin).

The first consultation was to assess whether my type of birthmarks can be removed – pls note that not all birthmarks can be removed and laser treatments require alot of patience because they require a long-term follow up and ALOT OF TOLERANCE for painnn….

Will blog about this again when I’ve more results to review. As for now, I can only say that the Comedone Formula (CF) works very effectively for many others and within 1-2 days, I could already see promising results!!! I cannot rave more 🙂

Alrightys, till then! 🙂

Be back for more reviews on food and beauty! :p

Food Review – Brotzeit

Had dinner at Brotzeit with the girls 2 weeks ago to celebrate 1 of their bday in advance 🙂

Photo 07-05-2013 06 52 56 PM

What’s a celebration without booze? We ordered original ones in 0.5 pint. Can’t remember the names because they were all german beers.

Photo 07-05-2013 07 04 25 PM

The sausages were alright except for the whitest one, it was mashy and disgusting. We didn’t finish that.

Photo 07-05-2013 07 04 32 PM

The pizza was alright but not for those who can’t take spicy, like me, because I fell into the chilli traps a few times because they were hidden inside, and then now when I relook at the picture above, besides the small green ones, the huge red ones are chillis too! OMG. How blind can I get? I’d thought they were tomatoes.

Photo 07-05-2013 07 04 39 PM

The fries were the tastiest! Not sure if they were truffle fries but they were comparable to mac fries! Highly addictive too! 😀

And this is us 🙂

Photo 07-05-2013 07 09 07 PM

Thanks for the invitation girls, really appreciate it. xoxo.

WIN PRETTY APPARELS!

Hello you! Here’s a little update on my current life right now. Previously, I’d mentioned that I will be going on a hiatus for awhile due to exams and yes, I’m still having exams which would only end this Friday.

For those who don’t already know, I’m currently pursuing my Master of Laws… So yes, I’m taking a postgraduate course. I feel flattered that some people still thinks I’m an undergrad because it only means 1 thing, that I still look young right? And that I’m still able to pull off as an undergrad. HAHAHA. Self-denial.

So anyway, I’ll be updating this space more often once the nightmarish days are over. Nightmarish days – how ironic, heh. Will be updating on food and beauty reviews so stay tuned! 🙂

Nevertheless, thanks for checking back on this little unpopular dusty virtual space of mine, really really appreciate it 🙂

My Online Shop!

The time has finally come! I am back being a boss… I know I’ve countless online shops before but products were mostly on a pre-order basis. However, I’d decided to take a chance this time round and bring in instocks! I know how long waiting time is such an ass for pre-orders so I’m hoping that things would change for the better this time round!

My entrepreneurial (or rather, techopreneurship) spirit has been growing fiercely in me ever since I was young. I’ve been selling clothes, accessories, shoes, handmade accessories such as earings, necklaces and bracelets and I had even went to the extend to design shoes to sell! I’ve even customised some for customers – who were my niece and nephew la.

Take a look!

diyshoes5 diyshoes6 diyshoes diyshoes2 diyshoes3 diyshoes4

But I’d decided to cease operations because it was very time-consuming and lots of efforts were required. Plus, I was still a full-time student at that time during Uni days… and although you can’t convert some intangible into monetary value, it was quite obvious that the effort, time, blood and sweat, not forgetting the numerous of materials required did not justify the price of the shoes. Furthermore, I can’t be pricing my items too high too.

Yup, so here’s my new online shop :

Weekend without YOU.

The bf is coming home tonight but at a godly hour at 1-2plus in the morning, sg time! I didn’t manage to send him off for his bkk trip with his group of friends and neither am I going to pick him up from the airport tonight, or technically speaking, tomorrow morning. But one thing for sure is that we will be meeting tomorrow after work. Lucky him, as he doesn’t have to work tomorrow as he took leave to rest for the day. I bet he didn’t have sufficient rest over at bkk either.

Surprisingly, I braved through the weekend without bf and had some time to myself and friends. 🙂

Dined with sis and her friends (whom I know too) at Ministry of Food at Marina Square, had Ramen and proceeded to have some sinful ice creams at Cold Stone Creamery at Citylink mall. But sorry, no pics 😦

***

Met up with the bestie on Saturday for shopping!

And here are my loots from Bugis Street :

Personally, I don’t fancy expensive clothes and shoes. I prefer getting cheap ones, although quality may be compromised, but it still gives me the kick of getting good deals. But I know the costs aren’t that high too anyway, if they can sell at the price. I prefer splurging on branded bags 🙂

We wanted to head to Around de World for dinner but ended up at Manhanttan Fish Market at Bugis +, all because it was pouring 😦

But I’m sure we would have the chance to try it out in the near future! 🙂

Bestie 🙂

Me! 😀

And before we parted, we camwhored a little.

Apologies for the bad quality and awkward smiles (on me) because we were rushing off to catch the coming buses… LOL. Stressful u know!

To bestie : Thank you for being my bestie for the 13th year and counting! I MUST SAY THAT WE ARE REALLY OLD!

But nevertheless, thank you for staying the same and remaining true. I am glad that we have actually bonded closer than before. I’m also glad that we get along well with each other’s bf and double date for us is no problem at all. I can’t wait to be your maid-of-honour at your wedding! 🙂 ❤

***

And for Sunday, it was a stay-home one for me but was nevertheless tiring to the max because I spring cleaned my room! Like finally, I know!

Mom was like, “Wah, cleaning your room only after 25yrs!”  -.-

GASP.

I was never a fan of getting things organised, cleaned and packed in my room/desk because I believe that things will get messy eventually, which I have proved my own belief to be true. LOL. It’s like how I’ve never believed that there is a compelling need to make your bed since you would be using it again at night, and in fact everyday?

Okay, don’t judge me.

So I cleared my stuffs, packed and organised them, threw those unwanted stuffs… and of course, credit goes to my maid who helped too in the process with the additional help of mopping and vacuuming…

Had to clear tonnes of clothes too so as to make new space for my bursting new collection. I’ve been so addicted to online shopping and I still am! Oh gosh, seriously have to control my expenditure. 😦

And what’s worse is that, I’m still not done clearing my unwanted old clothes! I’ve already gathered 2 big bags (those black garbage bags) waiting to donate to charity – most likely The Salvation Army, and I’m sure there will still be tonnes left to give away! 😦

By the way, look what I’ve found!

NO RULES SHIRTS! ZOMG. HAHAHA!

Anyway, I know The Salvation Army only picks up furniture or bulky items but I’m hoping that these huge big bags of clothes would be considered as ‘bulky’ too. I can’t possibly drive them to the nearest outlet to drop them off, since I doubt there would be sufficient space in the car and boot? I think 2 big bags are enough to take up the whole lot of space of the car boot already.

And plus, I’m too lazy/busy to bring them down… My dad might not like to idea of this hassle too 😦

Will contact them and see how!

Crossing fingers 🙂

Hoped your weekend was good too ❤

xoxo,

Jean 🙂
