OL’s (Office Lady’s) Great Skincare Tips!

First and foremost… To all the OLs reading this, hang in there! Because…

Hahaha! I’ll be spending my birthday on Superstar Virgo tomorrow till Sunday 🙂

And honestly, I’m experiencing mixed emotions because on one hand, it’s supposed to be a happy occasion but on the other, the number is increasing and so are my wrinkles. Okay, for now it’s the changing of my skin conditions as well as prominent laugh lines.

Hope to blog about the change in skin conditions due to age soon. Bet it’s gonna be quite a depressing post? Haha!

So anyway, for those entering the workforce soon or have already been ‘buried’ alive by the tonnes of work, and still surviving, here are some skincare tips I would like to share based on my own research and experience. Have been working for almost 1.5yrs now after my last paper before the official graduation. Yes, I started work immediately after my last written paper as I had started job-hunting way much earlier before my exams even started. I didn’t go for any grad trip either. Personally, I can’t stand how slackers slack their asses off even after graduation, as in not putting any effort to look for a job, you know what I mean?

Okay, so back to the main topic (I know I tend to disgress often).

For myself, because I’m a coffee addict, verified and proven when I have the urge for coffee even during weekends. Bf ain’t helping much either because being a coffee addict himself, he invites me for a cuppa during the weekends too, be it brewed from coffee powder from home, packet instant ones, uncle-like 90cents coffee from coffeeshop or expensive atas ones from Starbucks (I prefer SB over CB – not a swear word ok? haha!)

Because of this die-hard addiction, I have to have a cuppa every morning before work without fail. Would gulp down a 1/2 cup (because I’m always in a rush in the morning lol) of black coffee before leaving home. So that’s 1 down for me. I try to reduce my coffee-intake but on the average I have abt 2 cuppas per day. But counting the total amount of caffeine, I think I have seriously exceeded the recommended daily intake of 200 to 300mg a day, since I do drink other caffeinated drinks as well throughout the whole day such as Iced lemon tea (I’m a huge fan of Seasons brand), green tea (hot/cold), chinese tea, coke… Just so you know, green tea HAS caffeine but just not as much as coffee. One cup of coffee contains 100-150mg of caffeine; a cup of green tea has only about 25mg of caffeine.

Besides the heart problems which can be resulted due to excessive intake of caffeine, it is extremely bad for the skin as well.  Here’s why and I am quite sure most OLs do consume a considerable amount of caffeine so here are some tips to help restore the moisture lost.

Dehydration is one of the obvious result after you consuming caffeinated drinks, which is also aggravated by the air-conditioned environment in offices.

As such, you skin becomes dry, dehydrated and wrinkly. Total major turn off I’d say.

Try this :

1. Moisturise your body

I’m using Nivea’s whitening body lotion which you can get off shelves from convenience stores or supermarkets. Either that, get cheaper ones from parallel importers which are usually found in heartland areas or from Watsons airport (No GST). If your friends/family or yourself have the luxury of travelling via flights, then get them from overseas. They are much cheaper. Some places to share are like Malaysia – KL (JB stuffs are usually not that cheap) and Bangkok. I’ve gotten mine from these places before and they prove to be alright.

Areas I moisturise : Limbs (Arms and Legs – both upper and lower for limbs), neck and my face of course.

It keeps your skin moisturised and Nivea’s body lotions are not sticky and absorbs quite well. They have improved considerably in fact compared to the past. The lotion is still thick but not as viscous anymore. They don’t leave any white residue too. Plus, they have added whitening ingredients! 😀

I do use the night one as well 🙂

 2. Moisturise your hands

I’m not practising what I’m preaching right here because I don’t have the habit of moisturising my hands. It’s a little troublesome if you have to wash your hands often –  after visiting the toilet/cups etc and the moisturisers gets washed and stripped away. If you want soft supple skin then go ahead. Better still if you retain them by wearing gloves (But not a good idea if your desk is open-space and crowded).

3. Hydrate yourself

Caffeine or even vitamin c triples the number of times you visit the toilet. Caffeine is a powerful diuretic that sucks fluids out of your cells and directly stimulates urination. Without caffeine, you will not feel as dehydrated. In other words, you lose more water content than you should thus causing you to feel thirsty frequently. After consuming caffeinated drinks, hydrate yourself with lots of water to replenish whatever was lost. In this case, you compensate for it. Of course, if you can reduce or abstain from caffeinated drinks, is even better. But for coffee addicts like me, I have to constantly remind myself to drink up.

4. Facial mist

This is something relatively new to me because I don’t usually use any facial mist. But because I came across an article regarding Hilary Duff’s secret to her glowing skin. She mentioned facial mist helps her achieve radiant skin and while I was packing my room, I discovered a facial mist from My Beauty Diary which I’d won via a Sunnanz instagram contest 🙂 Sunnanz is one of the usual online shops I get my skincare stuffs from! Not an advertorial but merely sharing with you guys! 🙂

Orange Blossom and White Lotus Moisturising Mist

Tried this today for the 1st time and regret not bringing it along for work. It smells really good and so far, my skin feels less oily (I swear!) and looks a tad brighter, despite the lack of sleep. So I will be trying it daily from now on. And because the skin is less oily, I don’t have to touch up my make up (powder) that often too. YAY 😀

Apart from that, the strong scent of this mist is rather fragrant! Plus point for it! 🙂

I do hope it’s the facial mist that is helping my skin and not by chance.

Facial mists are good at brightening the skin, in achieving dewy skin, hydrates the skin and even helps set the make up. I sprayed on twice after cleansing, applying toner, applying serum/essence but before my moisturiser and make up. Have no idea if this is the right procedure but was afraid that it might cause the makeup to be cakey, but since research shows that it helps to set the makeup, it shouldn’t be right? Will try spraying it after applying my make up and see how.

5. Eye care

Again I am contradicting myself here because I usually don’t put on eye care stuffs. As mentioned, I am always rushing in the morning (oh how I loathe mornings!), so gotta cut down on the number of stuffs I apply on my face. Plus, afraid that it might cake my makeup, especially the eye area (I use concealer from Missha and Canmake white highlighter) under my eyes. I use the highlighter on my upper eyelids too to create a more defined eyebrow bone. Have tried several eye products but still, my dark circles leech on. 😦

I am only pointing this out because desk-bound workers stare at the computer screen for almost the whole day. Even worse if you OT. Even than, our eyes do not rest enough because not only our eyes are glued to the computer screens, but on our phone, ipad, tv etc. It tires out your eyes, thus causing dehydration and poor blood circulation around the eye areas. Such daily activities are not only harmful to your eyes themselves (poor eyesight) but to the surrounding skin as well. Plus, since this skin is the thinnest compared to all the other skin, its delicacy requires extra protection and care.

‘Nuff said, I’ve not found my holy grail to cure my dark circles for the moment. Starting to think it’s hopeless 😦

6. Moisturise your lips

I don’t think I have sensitive lips but I am bounded with core sore ever since I was a teen. Transmitted by bacteria through saliva, have no idea what I’d got it from though. I am using Maybelline’s baby lips which gives a little glossy look finish. I used to use Mentholatum Medicated lip balm because it gives a minty fresh feel, but strangely, if I were to apply this before bed, I would wake up to a cold sore the next morning, definitely. But other than that, it works alright for me. I don’t think I am allergic to it but I’ve since abstained from using it before bed. On the other hand, the Maybelline’s baby lips lip balm works alright during the day and over the night, so Imma gonna stick to this for now 🙂 Not cheap for both though, priced at $5.90 at Watsons.

Heh, think that’s all for now. These tips are basically to deal with dehydration due to the air-conditioned environment in offices for OLs.

Hope they are useful to you in one way or another! 🙂

Thanks for reading 😀

Love,

Jean

Mask and packet are filled with essence of goodness! Remember not to throw them away after removing the mask. You can use the remaining essence for your face and neck massage! 🙂

So now you can see how terrible my dark circles are but I’ve got to clarify that I didn’t remove my mascara on my lower lashes properly.

One main concern that I have with MBD masks is that they seem to tear more easily compared to their pioneer batches of masks. Also, the masks seem more translucent compared to the past. I guess perhaps this is the reason?

I used to mask while sitting and using the computer, just so I can kill 2 birds with 1 stone. But I’ve learnt that you face will sag if you do that and since I’m hitting the ageing age soon, I now religiously lie down while masking, thought my eyes will still be glued to my iPhone =x

Left it on for around 20 to 25mins and massaged the essence onto my face as usual. The smell of honey and strawberry was not as great compared to the Strawberry Milk flavour.

Once the mask was removed, I could see instant brightening of the face. Something similar to the effects of the Fancl’s whitening mask as well as the MBD Hello Kitty Strawberry Milk flavour. But what differs this mask from the Strawberry Milk flavour is that it really soothens the skin and I was left with soft and supple skin after that! Very very soft like baby’s butt cheeks! 😛

Am very satisfied with MBD masks and hence, that explains my pending arrival of more MBD masks! Whoops =x

I skipped the revitalising cream from Kose Sekkisei Supreme and only applied the Moisturiser after that as I felt it might be too much and may cause oiliness over the night.

Beauty Reviews – My Beauty Diary Hello Kitty Masks

I know that this Hello Kitty flavour range is not the latest updates by MBD, but will review them anyways :)Exfoliation is always a must when it comes to masking because it open up your pores which allow the essence of goodness to seep into!

Will do a review on the exfoliating facial cleanser soon! 😀

After exfoliation, pat your face dry, apply toner on your skin for better absorption of the essence! This time, I used the SK II facial lotion (toner) which was given as a trial set by Bellabox !

Will also do up a review on Bellabox too 🙂

After applying the toner, I then proceed to mask.

Way too cute right? Tried out the Strawberry flavour one which helps to whiten and smoothen the skin! 🙂

Mask is filled with lots of essence! Dripping kind – a little inconvenient because it might get a little messy…It has strawberry smell too! 🙂

The essence keeps dripping to my neck although I was already lying down. I used to mask while sitting up but it’s bad for your skin because it tends to cause sagging.Held it on for approx 20 to 30mins and my face was really brighten instantly! I could see the difference! It had actually the same effect as the Black Pearl flavour from MBD.

I then massage the remaining essence into my face and neck, so don’t throw away the package after you have taken out the mask!

After massaging, I then applied SK II facial essence (I know very kiasu right) and the SK II Cellumination Deep Surge EX from Bellabox.

Applied Laneige Water Bank Eye Gel after that… 🙂

Satisfaction level of product: 4.5/5 stars
Will I recommend this product : Yes 🙂
