[Beauty Review] Biore UV Bright Face Milk [PINK] Sunblock SPF50PA++

I must admit that I was one of those lazy ones who couldn’t care less about applying sunblock and its importance. I have had freckles on my face for the longest time ever known, like since young? It could be because I used to be quite sporty back in my teens (yeah I know, it was that long!) and I was frequently under the sun. I used to be quite tanned to be honest.

By now, I hope you girls know the importance of applying sunblock before heading outdoors, if not you should really google all about it!

Anyhoo, I guess the freckles stuck by me for the longest time (sounds so wrong?) and till date, I still have them. Speaking of which, I hope I’ll be able to laser them off soon or something but honestly speaking, lasering my face is so much scarier than lasering off my birthmarks on my body?

It was only until recently I decided to be more diligent and apply sunblock lotion before applying my foundation. I’m using Chanel compact foundation powder by the way that includes an SPF of 20. I was using Sunplay SKIN Aqua UV Moisture Milk SPF50 PA+++ and DrX’s Non-tinted Sunscreen SPF 30+ (5A) 60ml.

Recently, I ordered this Biore sunblock from Qoo10 and I’ve been loving it ever since! Never regretted.

With the constant lack of sleep, my skin loses its radiance easily and the lack of luster inevitably results in dull skin. That was the reason why I choose ‘bright skin’ instead of the rest.

Now, on to my face.

These pictures are totally unedited, except to sharpen its resolution (because my iphone camera sucks).

Sigh, just take a look at all my ugly freckles and huge pores… 😥

After application of foundation powder :

Now, for the pros and cons.

Pros :

  • It does brighten up your skin instantly after application
  • It has quick-absorbent properties
  • Non-sticky

Cons :

  • Dries up pretty fast so you will have to apply quickly all over your face
  • The price difference between retail and the Qoo10 shop which I got this sunblock from is like what, a few bucks? I only realised it when I happen to chance upon it at SaSa which is selling at $15+. Not sure about other retail shops though.
  • Too small a bottle, wish it came in bigger size like its blue version (Sunplay SKIN Aqua UV Moisture Milk SPF50 PA+++)

Overall rating :

4 stars

[Beauty Review] Love Alpha Fibre Mascara

I have been wearing falsies/fake eyelashes for quite some time now, approx for 6 years? Haha! And I’ve been wanting to stop wearing them for a more natural look but because my natural eyelashes are extremely short, I have been trying to grow them out wish eyelash serum and tonic. Results can  be said to be effective but nothing fantastic. More on that later.

While I was “window-shopping” on Qoo10, I chanced upon this highly raved mascara – Love Alpha Fibre MascaraJust so you know that this isn’t a paid advertorial or sponsorship. I paid $11.90 +$1.50 normal postage fee for it which amounts to $13.40.

A few bucks more expensive than its promo price.

The packaging is indeed pretty and although there are other mascaras which comes in such packaging, this is my first time seeing this!

This is how it looks when applied :

Now, for the reviews…

Pros :

  1. It really does lengthen and volumise your lashes
  2. Easy to apply with minimal steps
  3. Pretty packaging

Cons :

  1. I really loathe how it clumps, clumps and keeps on clumping! I’ve tried twice and 4 times altogether (because you have a pair of eyes?) but it still clumps….
  2. The correct method is to apply the fiber at mid-length and ends of the lashes but…it still clumps!
  3. 2-way method is definitely more troublesome than those mascaras which already have fibre in them – am now trying another mascara from Loreal, will blog about it soon 🙂
  4. Seller claims its authentic but I can guarantee and her attitude and customer service is not fantastic as reflected in the reviews
  5. Takes a longer time to apply compared to other mascara – definitely not for those rushing in the morning to work

Will I recommend this product?

The answer is NO.

It may be cheap but I can’t guarantee the authenticity despite the authenticity sticker and clumping mascara is definitely a BIG NO-NO! I don’t know if the problem lies with me or what but some others didn’t face this problem, and perhaps practice does make perfect…?

[Beauty] How to make your DIY Gel Nails last?

Gel nails have their pros and cons but one of the main reason why girls have their nails done in gelish nail polish is due to the durability. Gel nails are known to last longer than normal nail polishes, although they are more harmful due to curing under UV/LED light.

Apart from having my manicure sessions done at nail salons, I like to DIY them myself.

These are the tools which are required :

grey DIY gelish nails x normal nail polishes

I have blogged about them before earlier on, so do take some time to read here before moving on, especially if you are new to this 🙂

I get most of my stuffs from Qoo10 and they aren’t expensive.

Although the quality of the nail polishes make a huge difference, I realised that some cheaper gel nails (authenticity unverified though) can last too! I know how expensive it is to have manicures done every now and then and also how pricey gel nail polish brands such as Gelish Harmony, Artistic, Red Carpet are…

I have soft and brittle nails (natural and due to wearing nail polishes too long) and often experience breakage and chipping. Furthermore, recently I have been suffering from short lifespan of my gel nails as they peel easily. And I don’t mean like chipping off bit by bit, it’s like the whole piece of nail polish peels off from my whole nail bed!

It’s definitely annoying especially since it can occur few hours or the day after my DIY manicure! Not to mention, it is also very unsightly. #OCD

So here are some useful tips which I have discovered that would help you achieve longer lasting gel nails :

1. Remove your previous manicure properly. I didn’t really follow this because most of my gel nails were able to peel off, so I took the easy way out and peel them all off, although not advisable. Heh.

2. Buff and file your nails.

3. This is the most important step. I skipped this step previously and that was why my gel nails kept peeling off. Cleanse the nail bed thoroughly with Acetone.

4. Apply pH bond. I used to think applying pH bond was sufficient and never really thought that there might be some residue left from my previous session despite peeling them all off.

5. Do not allow the nail polish to come into contact with your skin. If it does, remember to WIPE IT OFF BEFORE YOU CURE IT. This is because curing your nails under the UV/LED lamp ‘seals’ the nail polish and hardens it, thus making it difficult for you to salvage it without removing the whole nail polish again. Any ‘gaps’ will cause your nail polish to chip/peel.

6. Apply an additional layer on your finger tips to ‘seal’ the whole nail bed.

7. Apply an additional top coat and cure it for a longer time (optional).

Here are some of my humble works thus far :

diy gel

Hope you enjoy them and thanks for reading! 🙂

DIY gelish nails x normal nail polishes

YES! You’ve read it right! I’ve attempted to go all full force by experimenting using normal nail polishes and mixing it with gelish nail polishes (base and top coats).

I’ve always wanted to try using normal nail polishes as the base colour because gelish nail polishes are DAMN EXPENSIVE!!! It costs about $20 per bottle vs $8 (china glaze from DYON international – Cineleisure Scape)! I bought my 1st gelish nail polishes, top and base coats from gelish harmony from DYON as well 🙂

I’ve to first disclaim that the results might not turn out as pretty as gelish nail polishes or durable for that matter. But keep my fingers crossed anyhoo.

Here are the products and tools that were used.

Photo 26-05-2013 10 33 42 PM

Now, don’t say that I’ve not been sharing awesome deals (if you’ve been reading my blog, you would know I DO share great buys with honest reviews (not sponsored)).

Base coat, Top Coat and China glaze were bought from DYON International from Cineleisure Scape. I’ve even linked their Facebook page for you 🙂 How can you not love me eh? I’ve been getting most of my OPI and China Glaze nail polishes from them. China Glaze are going for 3 for $20! How can you resist?! Well, I couldn’t. So I’ve quite a handful of them lying around, which I thought might not work with gelish nail polishes or curing with UV/LED lamp.

But tadah! IT WORKS!

Laquee Rette Blue Purple Glitter were from Qoo10 – lovely.desiires

Cute Ribbon LED Lamp (18Watts) and Gelish Harmony Nail Surface Cleanse from Qoo10 – Crystalife

You can actually replace the Nail Surface Cleanse with lint wipes as well 🙂

How do you go about DIY-ing your own gelish nails?

I’ve actually blogged a detailed entry on this before, so please read here if you are keen 🙂 It’s actually not that difficult, except if you have to remove your previous gelish nails on your own (which I’ve also included a step-by-step in that tutorial post) and if you have shaky/retarded left hand like mine. Other than that, it’s pretty simple and hassle-free with LED lamps!

Here’s the final result!

Photo 26-05-2013 10 26 44 PM Photo 26-05-2013 10 26 20 PM Photo 26-05-2013 10 28 01 PM

A thousand apologies for the poor reso and lighting. The picture doesn’t do justice for the colours. I mean it’s not 100% salon-standard quality, but it’s still acceptable and pretty for a DIY attempt! I shouldn’t be so hard on myself… HAHA!

The purple base colour is actually much lighter than you see in the pictures.

I love how both purple base and glitter colours have a tinge of blue undertones and slight shimmery sheen! Both colour combinations kinda reminds me of fairytale pixie magical dust… you know what I mean.

Googled some images on the China Glaze Tantalise me so you actually have a clearer view on the colour.

A little short review on the products and sellers.

lovely.desiires : Spillage in 1 of the 3 bottles I bought. Delivery was long as items were mailed from HongKong. Took abt 2 weeks. Seller’s customer service was acceptable. Nail polishes were cheap compared to other brands such as Gelish Harmony. Honestly, I do not think the brand matters as well as the product works well for you and proves its worth. So far, the 3 Laquee Rette glitter UV/gel nail polishes worked well for me 🙂 But I can’t be 100% sure if its authentic? Nevermind that, like I’ve said, as long as it works well for me, I don’t mind if it’s non-authentic or an inferior brand.

Crystalife : One of my favourite sellers on Qoo10! Her customer service is superb! Replies very promptly. Her items have proved their worth thus far. Bought the LED lamp, nail cleanse and acetone. She sells gelish nail polishes with brands such as Gelish Harmony and Artistic too (20$ ++) and other nail art tools.

DYON International : maintains sales both online on their FB page as well as retail flea market booth at Scape. Takes some time to reply queries via FB and some queries were left unanswered and ignored. But staff at the booth was alright. Prices for China Glaze and OPI were quite cheap. Gelish Harmony polishes were market price. Bought a better base coat for strengthening my soft brittle nails at 30$++ but didn’t prove its worth, but gotta continue using it, no choice.

So yes, I hope these reviews were of some help to you. Like I’ve always said, sharing is caring. 🙂

And yes, in conclusion, YOU CAN MIX NORMAL NAIL POLISHES WITH GELISH NAIL POLISHES in this sequence (apply gelish base coat – cure it under UV/LED lamp – apply normal nail polish (I applied 2 coats) – cure it under the lamp (IT ACTUALLY WORKS! HAHA!) – apply additional glitter/nail designs (optional) – cure it under the lamp – apply top coat (u can apply 2 coats – cure it under lamp – wipe with nail surface cleanse/lint wipes)

Just hope this combination lasts though 😉

HAVE FUN GIRLS! 😀

I bought their Vitamin Creams as well – A, E and K – which I would leave it for reviews another day 🙂 So stay tuned!

As you can see, only the Bubble Powder Mask & Cleanser is available hence the purchase. This item is also used as the 1st step to the Pore Tightening 3-Step Programme. As I was looking for a clay mask instead of sheet masks, I decided to get this despite not having the other 2 items available. It didn’t matter to me.

It comes with a mixing bowl and brush. At first I was skeptical as to the quality of the brush, especially when it’s made in China, but it proves its worth. It’s really worth and easy to apply on your face. The mixing bowl is also made of rubber plastic instead of glass so there is no risk of breaking it.

A close-up :

And its functions :

Step 1 : Pour an appropriate amt into the bowl

Step 2 : Drip some water onto the powder – need to have a good estimation. Previously in my 1st attempt, I added too much water and the mask became extremely watery and drippy, and I couldn’t use it as a cleanser because I’ve  already cleansed my face before. So it’s not wise to re-cleanse because it would strip off any natural moisture and oil from your skin.

Step 3 : Mix the powder and water together using the brush until it becomes a thick liquid

Step 4 : Apply and spread evenly on your face using the brush provided. Avoid areas around the lips (which I didn’t!) and eye areas.

Step 5 : Wash it off with water thoroughly after that.

So far, I’ve been using it as a mask and this is my 2nd attempt.

Pros :

  1. Helped clarified and removed some gunk I had on my cheeks and especially on my chin but not totally.
  2. Face looked instantly brighter and fairer
  3. Skin feels softer and smoother
  4. Mask hardens quite quickly but it also depends on how much water you use to mix
  5. Skin feels extremely tightened after that – but left me feeling rather dry too. Can’t decide which is which.

Cons :

  1. Still left with some stubborn gunk on my face
  2. Need to have a good estimation of the qty of powder to be used as well as how much water is required to create a tacky clay mask
  3. A tad difficult to wash off as there were some residue left even after washing

Cheap shift dress from Qoo10!

THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTORIAL. (Must disclaim first)

Good things are meant to be shared and sharing is caring! 😀

As mentioned previously on my Facebook page, I’m gonna share with you guys this particular seller from Qoo10 where I got my shift dress from! I bought brown and burgundy but the latter arrived in dark orange, however the colour shown below does not justify its accurateness. It is really more to orangey colour. Even the ones shown on the seller’s page is the same as the one I snapped, but trust me, it’s more towards orangey colour! That made made a little disappointed.

Please don’t stare at my armpit fats and my fat arms, thank you.

Delivery took about 1 week and item arrived in good condition. The first thing I tested were the zippers at the back of the dress. It got stuck a few times, especially at the extra layer of cloth, but when worn, the zipper is reachable and works perfectly fine.

Other than that, I bought size S and reading from the reviews of others on the seller’s page, be careful of the sizes you choose because most of them complained that they couldn’t fit into their usual sizes. Thankfully, I could but wearing the dress is a hassle because it’s tight, so I do get stuck, haha! But when worn, it looks perfectly fine and fits well on me.

Am happy because I’ve 2 additional dresses for work! I prefer putting on dresses to work because it saves alot of time. You need to crack your brain to think of what bottoms to match with what top.

Oh and I actually wanted the navy one initially but it was out of stock. But luckily, they were only going at $6.90 during a time sale, but has since reverted to $9.90 again. Well, $9.90 for a thick material made of suede is still something to scream for! 😀

If you’re getting them too, share it with your friends as well! 🙂

Gmarket/Qoo10 Shops to BOYCOTT (Part II)!!!

Further to my previous post (Part I), here is another shop on Gmarket/Qoo10 you might wanna consider boycotting. If I were to rank these 2 shops, this 2nd shop is a tad better than PrettyCloset (aka prettycloset.sg).

2. C-Life is the name of the shop.

In the end, I didn’t get a refund from him/her because I can’t be bothered anymore, plus he wanted my PayPal account which I thought was kinda troublesome and I know that there are additional charges involved for PayPal transactions.

So the whole timeline sequence goes like this :

Note, it was my 2nd time buying from this shop because I have had good experience during my 1st purchase. Both orders were on portable chargers for iPhone and the latter purchase was for bf, who also bought an adaptor and pouch on top of the portable charger.

Problems faced : Wrong colour for charger given. Didn’t send out adaptor. Pouch was ok. Cable for portable charge faulty, very loose, can’t charge properly and hence, always gets disconnected.

Already provided him the order number like several times and he still kept asking for it. See the dates.

Shot emails…

GONG SIMI?!

Okay, end of story.

I did not provide him my paypal account but after learning that you can actually cancel the order and refund the $ to the buyer via the Qoo10 platform which  PrettyCloset actually told me, perhaps I should do get the person to do that. Or maybe just let the matter rest altogether.

In any case, this C-Life is definitely tad better than PrettyCloset, but both of them are definitely going into my blacklist.

You may also read on the bad reviews on Gmarket, especially on its slow delivery, missing items and faulty items for PrettyCloset and C-Life.

I may just add another shop to my blacklist. Will see how.

Hopefully by pointing them out would do my readers some good.

Update on 28th March 2013 : http://list.qoo10.sg/item/PRETTYCLOSET-VALENTINE-DAY-VARIOUS/405110137

I have replied to a comment left on this blog entry regarding irresponsible sellers and I have taken the effort to check back on one of them –  PrettyCloset.

Naturally, reading even more bad reviews from other  buyers who experienced terrible customer service as well as didn’t receive items from this seller didn’t surprise me one bit. Rather, it affirms my stand.

I hope the person who left the comment would read the reviews of others as well before pointing fingers.
