How do bloggers receive sponsorship and exclusive event invitations?

I think this topic has got to be one of the many interesting ones which readers or potential bloggers/beginner bloggers are keen to know and this partly reads the life of a blogger.

As requested by some readers, I have decided to share a fair bit on getting sponsorship and receiving invitations from exclusive invitations.

Naturally, it is always a struggle when you just started out, trying to make a name in any industry and the blogosphere applies accordingly as well.

It is difficult and I am no XX, QQ or KK.

bloggers

I blog not only because of the perks but mainly because I love to write.

You can’t survive if you do not first have the passion as your interest would die off very quickly. Trust me on that.

Here are some ways and tips you may wish to consider if you are keen in enjoying the perks.

Be thick-skinned

I dislike mincing my words so when I said be thick-skinned, you really have to to possess that certain layer of thickness and approach others yourself directly.

This is especially true if you are just starting out, with no/minimal number of readership views.

You need to create awareness and draw attention to your blog. And it doesn’t stop there. How you keep readers interested and return to your blog is another matter all together. Perhaps I would leave that topic for another day.

Approaching established brands might fill your disappointment if you are barely starting out. These top companies usually engage PR/Media companies to handle their social media marketing business and of course, there are some silly ones which I have received before.

You can consider approaching smaller brands/companies but one way is to approach online shops and that are smaller ones/not so popular ones/just starting out like yourself.

However, bear in mind that these smaller ones may not be ready/have the capital to pay you for advertisements. Paid advertisements usually exist for established bloggers who have a stable amount of readership views.

My advice is that, don’t demand too much if you are just starting out. Whatever assignments that are appropriate and which you know you can complete without much hassle, take it.

$$$ can come in later.

You need to first create awareness of your blog.

So ask, ask and ask.

Do consider PR firms as well. As the power of social media strengthens by the minute, there are several of them sprouting out.

Nevermind if you get rejected, at least you have made your little humble blog known.

Join blogger-management companies

Some companies that manage/advertise bloggers/involve in social media marketing such as MyFatPocket, GushCloud, NuffNang etc are good opportunities if you are seeking for more collaboration opportunities. As I have mentioned, companies do approach and outsource to such social media marketing companies to handle this portion of work for them, especially since they have the capital to do so.

Some of these social media marketing companies may require a certain level of popularity (based on your readership) before you may join as their panel of bloggers.

After you are in, your blog will be ‘managed’ by them at the back end and whatever advertorials/sponsorship/invitations would then be handled by them as well.

PR Skills

I must admit that I would need to brush up my own PR skills. I am not a social butterfly and I can appear aloof if you don’t know me. (Psst, it’s just that sometimes I’m too serious for my own good and either than that, I don’t really like to smile. But now with my ‘new’ smile, I hope that would motivate me to smile more and with more confidence).

But good for you if you are naturally vocal and sociable.

Once you receive invitations to events, extend your network further by chatting up with people. If you’re not that sociable, remember my first point.

As with any social event, the best and common method to reach out to more people is to exchange name cards.

Think connections, think networking.

Aftermath

Congrats! So you have received your first advertorial/sponsorship/invitation, what should be done thereafter?

Get your ass to it, complete within deadlines and basically, just do an awesome job!

Once you maintain such standard, clients would come back for more.

If you’d asked me, this is a no-brainer tip.

Nobody would want to continue engaging a blogger/generally and pay them if unsatisfactory work was produced, right?

Furthermore, I don’t know about you but the great sense of achievement you receive after putting in your best effort and the compliments you receive from clients on your commendable work, is really priceless.

GOOD LUCK!

T-ara’s Beauty Secrets are OUT!

Want to know how these babes achieve their porcelain flawless and radiant skin?

The answer is none other than……….

 Blithe – Patting Water Pack

tara collage

This is their new premium beauty product from Korea!

 Blithe – Patting Water Pack

Please note that you can’t get their products anywhere else except from  Blithe as the are they only exclusive retailer in Singapore.

This water pack is extremely beneficial to those :

  • Do not have the time to attend facial sessions
  • Too lazy to mask at home
  • In need to detoxify their skin
  • Who are always in thick make-up

You just need these 4 steps :

blithe2

It’s much convenient and quicker, isn’t it?

It provides deep cleansing/balancing/hydration, elasticity to skin damaged from excessive stress, UV rays, and city pollution. As a result, it increases skin self autogenic power thru skin recovery system with 4D prescriptions.
How to use
1)Prepare to fill in 1/3 of water in the facial tub.
2) Add 1 cap of Patting water pack to dilute with water.
   (Patting water pack : water = 1:100)
3) Gently patt onto the skin several times, let it dry out or patt with facial towel.
*Tip. Natural drying is recommended for ultimate effect.
However, use towel for eye area.
          Use everyday.
They have 2 products that help to target different problems – Energy Yellow Citrus & Honey and Soothing & Healing Green Tea.

Energy Yellow Citrus & Honey

 blithe-crop

The lemon ingredient makes skin tone brighter to provide vitality to weary skin. Ingredients such as lemon, orange, bilberry, and other various fruit extracts as well as essential oil provides vitality to skin and increases skin flexibility for soft, brightened skin.
Our skin condition is affected by many factors such as diet, lifestyle, sufficient rest as well as weather conditions.
Blithe’s Energy Yellow Citrus & Honey would help target tired and dull skin which is a common problem among us girls, especially with the never ending deadlines, food intake and more so currently with the haze weather condition.
And just yesterday, I discovered how dry my skin on my cheeks was and it was actually peeling! 😦
I don’t have dry skin problems but I guess the haze has really gotten into us, isn’t it?

My review :
My skin felt soft and supple almost instantly, and there was the ‘boing boing’ effect of elasticity kind of feel! The water pack does not sting your eyes at all and I did not experience any allergy or stinging sensation. The citrus smell and generous ingredients used helped to keep my skin fresh and energized! Furthermore, it helped solve the dryness and flaking too!

Soothing & Healing Green Tea

blithe3-crop

20140316-163221.jpg

It is appropriate to use during the summer season, or for oily skin to calm down & control sebum, you will experience refreshing feeling after usage thru the herb scent to calm your body & mind. It contains green tea extract to relieve skin stress & stimulus, moreover to increase skin elasticity by providing astringent effect to skin.
This helps those with oily and troubled skin. However, those with combination skin (oily T-zone) may also make use of this product to help control the over secretion of sebum/oil. In addition, I noticed the difference in my skin condition during certain periods of the month.
Do you know that our skin condition changes due to hormonal changes?
As women, higher testosterone levels around menstruation further activate the sebaceous glands to make even more sebum.Sebum yields different effects in different women. “For some, it produces a healthy glow; for others, it creates a chronic oil slick,” Kunin says. The oil provides food for the bacterium P. acnes. This bacterium causes increased breakouts and inflammation around the time of women’s periods. To control the oil production on our skin, Blithe –  Soothing & Healing Green Tea would come in handy.

My review:
I like the strong green tea smell because it is very refreshing! After using the product, the secretion of the oil on my T-zone is better controlled. I did not have to touch up my foundation as frequent as before and that is definitely more beneficial to my skin as you know the more make-up you pile on, the more clogged your pores will be if you do not wash them off completely. This water pack also helps to fight blemishes such as acne, so I would definitely recommend those with battling with acne/pimple problems!

Although Blithe is a new product, it has already been in the limelight. Read here to find out more!

My 3rd Sculptra Treatment with Celevenus Wellness & Aesthetic Clinic

Hello everyone!

Few weeks ago, I headed back Celevenus for my 3rd Sculptra treatment with Dr Dylan Chau and am ready for my 3rd review!

Here are some information that I found out about Dr Dylan Chau.

–          Dr Dylan Chau is the trainer of Sculptra (ie. He trains other doctors on this procedure)

–          Dr Chau has done the most no. of cases of Sculptra procedure and Celevenus is the no. 1 Sculptra user in Singapore

–          He is the pioneer in Sculptra procedure ever since its launch in Singapore in 2009.

–          He is the most experienced doctor in this procedure

–          He is the Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for Sculptra

So rest assured that you’re in good and safe hands! 🙂

photo 5 (26)

Results so far have been effective and promising which you can read about the gradual progress in my previous blog posts :

1st Sculptra treatment session

2nd Sculptra treatment session

For those who have no idea :

What is this treatment about?

To summarize, it is a type of filler, injected with  l-poly-lactic acid to help stimulate and encourage facial growth via natural collagen production. By ‘natural’, it means that the collagen formed comes from your own tissue. Besides being able to achieve facial volume, Sculptra is also able to target other common areas due to loss of facial volume and ageing problems such as wrinkles, folds and skin laxity.

From my 2nd treatment, you could tell that results were already taking effect.

Here is a comparison of the results thus far :

1st to 3rd sculptra 2

And my most recent picture taken only few days ago (2 weeks after 3rd Sculptra treatment) while I was in Phuket with my boyfriend :

photo 1 (43)

Totally no filters at all!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw how different I am right now, even my boyfriend noticed the difference and complimented that I look better with fuller cheeks! 😀

What’s more is that my nasolabial folds, otherwise known as laugh lines (caused by ageing, sunkened cheeks, lack of volume and braces), are smoothened out too as well!

Who says you can’t defy ageing?

Now you can with Sculptra, which helps you achieve a more refined and youthful looking appearance over time that is clinically proven to be able to last up to 2 years or at least 25 months!

I chatted with the Aida, the lady boss of Nail Room @ One Six throughout my manicure and pedicure session who was extremely warm and friendly, and we clicked very well 🙂

As it was during the Chinese New Year Period, I opted for red but yet not wanting to look overly ‘cheena’ and ‘auntie-ish’.

So I chose this design for my manicure:

Fill your tummy with delicious food at Toby’s The Dessert Asylum!

Sponsored Advertorial

I was invited to try out the food at TOBY’s which is located at Parkway Parade awhile ago and only managed to head down just few days ago.

I brought my bf as my plus one and boy, were we both stuffed with delicious food!

photo (8)

photo 5 (22)

TOBY’s is easy to spotted from far due to the spacious area as well as colourful ambience.

The cafe is clean and neat, with loads of beautiful decorations and furniture but yet nothing over the top. Happy colours psychologically cheers one up! 🙂

photo 2 (32) photo 1 (32)

These were what we ordered :

For starters, we were highly recommended by one of their staff to try out their Spicy Hot Wings.

photo 1 (30)

photo 2 (30)

You can see how the wings are fried to perfect golden brown and every bite you sink your teeth into, you will sure to savour every crunch. They are not too oily so it eases some guilt for the health-conscious people. They were really addictive and very yummy! I highly recommend this dish too! 🙂

My bf ordered German and Cheese Bratwurst Dawgs Combi which was served sizzling hot. Creamy cheese oozes out with every bite of the Bratwurst and they literally just melt in your mouth! Another must-try too!

photo 4 (25)

As I was craving for some breakfast meal, I opted for good ol’  MOB Omelette from their breakfast menu!

photo 3 (26)

photo 3 (24)

photo 2 (31)

Look at the generous fillings of mushrooms, bacon, onion and cheese! Yummy!

And wondering what to quench your thirst?

Why not pamper yourself with this rich chocolate-y coffee topped with vanilla ice cream for that extra refreshing boost!

photo 5 (21)

photo 1 (31)

Bf had another energizing and rejuvenating drink called Pear-adise. I really like how TOBY’s pays meticulous attention to the names of their dishes and how entertaining they are!

photo 4 (26)

And last but not least, how can you walk out of TOBY’s without trying their desserts? They are a dessert asylum for god’s sake!

Bf and I settled with To-By Or Not To-By Mudpie that embraces rum and raisin ice cream, rich double choc ice cream filled with truckloads of chocolate chips and crispy waffle bits!

Food Review : Dim Dim The Hong Kong Pantry

Sponsored Review

When I was younger, I wasn’t so much of a Dim Sum fan but as I age, I sense the thrill of having served basket after baskets of dim sum 😛

Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to try out the highly raved or overly-crazed Tim Ho Wan. Or some might say, it’s overrated.

Swee Choon and 126 is kinda inconvenient if you do not drive as the nearest mrt requires some walking-distance.

So anyway, I was invited for a food tasting session at Dim Dim The Hong Pantry at Marina Link and I brought the man as my +1 🙂

dimdim

Marina Link is a little confusing to access but if you are coming down from City Hall mrt, walk through City Link all the way towards Suntec City, just before the escalators leading to Suntec, Marina Link would be on your right. On the left would be Esplanade Exchange. From afar, you can see the ‘Dim Dim’ signage.

Here is a screen shot of the map directory for your easy reference 🙂

dim

We managed to try 7 signature dishes of Dim Dim :

Hong Kong Milk Tea (left) : S$2.60

Yuan Yang (right) : S$$2.80

I tried the Milk Tea and it was neither too sweet or bland. The sugar level is just nice and it wasn’t very milky either.

IMG_5319

Cuttlefish and Peanut Congee – S$5.00 :

Congee was served hot, I added a little soya sauce as I prefer it to taste a little saltier.

IMG_5320

Steamed Custard Bun – S$4.20 :

These buns were served piping hot, so much so that the custard inside came oozing out once you try to peel them bit by bit to savour. The custard was not too salty and extremelt savoury!

IMG_5322

Piping hot custard oozing out….hmmmmm

IMG_5327

Baked BBQ Honey Pork Bun Coated with Crispy Butter – S$4.20 :

Buns were baked to slightly golden brown. and the honey pork fillings were very tasty and addictive, which were generously filled.

IMG_5325

Tasty pork fillings :

IMG_5330

Steam Prawn Dumping “Ha Kau” – S$4.20 :

Ha Kau’s skin is neither too thick or thin. I totally loathe those with super thick skins that are difficult to chew on! Shrimps were fresh, plump and juicy! The perfect skin all depends on the skills of the Chef and I must say that Dim Dim has perfected it! 🙂

IMG_5321

Steamed Cheong-fun with Chinese Dough Fritters – S$3.60 :

Now, this was my first experience trying such innovative dish. The usual “Chee Cheong Fun” dish is normally filled with “Char Siew” (Pork), prawns etc and so far, I’ve not come across Chee Cheong Fun stuffed with crispy dough fritters although this dish is one of the traditional Dim Sum delights!

What’s more, despite being a steamed dish, the dough fritters undoubtedly remain crispy!

IMG_5323

This “Chee Cheong Fun” is served alongside with Dim Dim’s very own special peanut and seafood sauce for that extra oomph!

IMG_5324

Deep-fried Shrimp in Beancurd Skin Roll – S$4.60 :

This must be the crispiest dish of all and you would know it once you sink your teeth into them! Fried to golden brown, it’s not wonder why it’s the perfect dish for deep-fried food lovers!

IMG_5331

Mini Egg Tarts – S$3.60 :

Perfect bite-size mini egg tarts that are freshly baked served straight from the oven. They were neither too sweet nor tasteless, just nice 🙂IMG_5326

Here is their menu for those drooling ones right now:

New funky colours for my hair done at Headlines Hairdressing Salon!

I’ve been wanting to get funky colours for my hair for quite some time now but didn’t have the courage to go ahead due to work requirements. I’m working in corporate office (where the offices of big bosses are) as the company’s Legal Counsel. Surely such a position deters one from having funky hair?

I regretted so much that I didn’t get it done while I still could, when I was still a student back then.

But nevertheless, it’s the festive season and #YOLO (you only live once), so I was thinking, heck! Why not? If not now, then when?

Would be ridiculous if I have to have funky hair when I was older!

So yes, I’ve decided to head down to my sponsor salon, Headlines Hairdressing 🙂

Charles, my hair stylist and the Creative Director, did inform me beforehand that pink is not as lasting as other colours such as purple, but I knew what I wanted and went ahead with pink anyway. 🙂

The pink hair dye is from Goldwell Elumen 🙂

Goldwell® Elumen®
Goldwell® Elumen® Color is a hair color that illuminates the hair inside out to achieve unique and creative results as well as stunning colors that clients request in your salon every day.
Its unique technology makes Elumen Color a physical color, which means that it works entirely without oxidising but still achieves spectacular and long-lasting color results.

-Sharp, fresh brilliant colors
-Exceptional shine
-Incredible durability
-Amazing, healthy looking hair

What is so amazing when dyeing hair with Headlines, especially with Charles is that every penny spent is well-worth! Just take a look at the colours! Previous pictures above only captured a single colour tone but look at how different it is when light rays are captured and reflected off them!
I love how the shade is not just one plain boring colour tone but contains of at least 2 funky and vibrant undertones as well!

You can see that other than fuchsia, it actually glimmers with orangey undertone as well! That’s like paying 2 colours for the price of 1! Totally worth it! 😀
