I chatted with the Aida, the lady boss of Nail Room @ One Six throughout my manicure and pedicure session who was extremely warm and friendly, and we clicked very well 🙂

As it was during the Chinese New Year Period, I opted for red but yet not wanting to look overly ‘cheena’ and ‘auntie-ish’.

So I chose this design for my manicure:

Fill your tummy with delicious food at Toby’s The Dessert Asylum!

Sponsored Advertorial

I was invited to try out the food at TOBY’s which is located at Parkway Parade awhile ago and only managed to head down just few days ago.

I brought my bf as my plus one and boy, were we both stuffed with delicious food!

photo (8)

photo 5 (22)

TOBY’s is easy to spotted from far due to the spacious area as well as colourful ambience.

The cafe is clean and neat, with loads of beautiful decorations and furniture but yet nothing over the top. Happy colours psychologically cheers one up! 🙂

These were what we ordered :

For starters, we were highly recommended by one of their staff to try out their Spicy Hot Wings.

photo 1 (30)

photo 2 (30)

You can see how the wings are fried to perfect golden brown and every bite you sink your teeth into, you will sure to savour every crunch. They are not too oily so it eases some guilt for the health-conscious people. They were really addictive and very yummy! I highly recommend this dish too! 🙂

My bf ordered German and Cheese Bratwurst Dawgs Combi which was served sizzling hot. Creamy cheese oozes out with every bite of the Bratwurst and they literally just melt in your mouth! Another must-try too!

As I was craving for some breakfast meal, I opted for good ol’  MOB Omelette from their breakfast menu!

And wondering what to quench your thirst?

Why not pamper yourself with this rich chocolate-y coffee topped with vanilla ice cream for that extra refreshing boost!

Bf had another energizing and rejuvenating drink called Pear-adise. I really like how TOBY’s pays meticulous attention to the names of their dishes and how entertaining they are!

And last but not least, how can you walk out of TOBY’s without trying their desserts? They are a dessert asylum for god’s sake!

Bf and I settled with To-By Or Not To-By Mudpie that embraces rum and raisin ice cream, rich double choc ice cream filled with truckloads of chocolate chips and crispy waffle bits!

Food Review : Dim Dim The Hong Kong Pantry

Sponsored Review

When I was younger, I wasn’t so much of a Dim Sum fan but as I age, I sense the thrill of having served basket after baskets of dim sum 😛

Unfortunately, I did not have the chance to try out the highly raved or overly-crazed Tim Ho Wan. Or some might say, it’s overrated.

Swee Choon and 126 is kinda inconvenient if you do not drive as the nearest mrt requires some walking-distance.

So anyway, I was invited for a food tasting session at Dim Dim The Hong Pantry at Marina Link and I brought the man as my +1 🙂

dimdim

Marina Link is a little confusing to access but if you are coming down from City Hall mrt, walk through City Link all the way towards Suntec City, just before the escalators leading to Suntec, Marina Link would be on your right. On the left would be Esplanade Exchange. From afar, you can see the ‘Dim Dim’ signage.

Here is a screen shot of the map directory for your easy reference 🙂

dim

We managed to try 7 signature dishes of Dim Dim :

Hong Kong Milk Tea (left) : S$2.60

Yuan Yang (right) : S$$2.80

I tried the Milk Tea and it was neither too sweet or bland. The sugar level is just nice and it wasn’t very milky either.

IMG_5319

Cuttlefish and Peanut Congee – S$5.00 :

Congee was served hot, I added a little soya sauce as I prefer it to taste a little saltier.

IMG_5320

Steamed Custard Bun – S$4.20 :

These buns were served piping hot, so much so that the custard inside came oozing out once you try to peel them bit by bit to savour. The custard was not too salty and extremelt savoury!

IMG_5322

Piping hot custard oozing out….hmmmmm

IMG_5327

Baked BBQ Honey Pork Bun Coated with Crispy Butter – S$4.20 :

Buns were baked to slightly golden brown. and the honey pork fillings were very tasty and addictive, which were generously filled.

IMG_5325

Tasty pork fillings :

IMG_5330

Steam Prawn Dumping “Ha Kau” – S$4.20 :

Ha Kau’s skin is neither too thick or thin. I totally loathe those with super thick skins that are difficult to chew on! Shrimps were fresh, plump and juicy! The perfect skin all depends on the skills of the Chef and I must say that Dim Dim has perfected it! 🙂

IMG_5321

Steamed Cheong-fun with Chinese Dough Fritters – S$3.60 :

Now, this was my first experience trying such innovative dish. The usual “Chee Cheong Fun” dish is normally filled with “Char Siew” (Pork), prawns etc and so far, I’ve not come across Chee Cheong Fun stuffed with crispy dough fritters although this dish is one of the traditional Dim Sum delights!

What’s more, despite being a steamed dish, the dough fritters undoubtedly remain crispy!

IMG_5323

This “Chee Cheong Fun” is served alongside with Dim Dim’s very own special peanut and seafood sauce for that extra oomph!

IMG_5324

Deep-fried Shrimp in Beancurd Skin Roll – S$4.60 :

This must be the crispiest dish of all and you would know it once you sink your teeth into them! Fried to golden brown, it’s not wonder why it’s the perfect dish for deep-fried food lovers!

IMG_5331

Mini Egg Tarts – S$3.60 :

Perfect bite-size mini egg tarts that are freshly baked served straight from the oven. They were neither too sweet nor tasteless, just nice 🙂IMG_5326

New funky colours for my hair done at Headlines Hairdressing Salon!

I’ve been wanting to get funky colours for my hair for quite some time now but didn’t have the courage to go ahead due to work requirements. I’m working in corporate office (where the offices of big bosses are) as the company’s Legal Counsel. Surely such a position deters one from having funky hair?

I regretted so much that I didn’t get it done while I still could, when I was still a student back then.

But nevertheless, it’s the festive season and #YOLO (you only live once), so I was thinking, heck! Why not? If not now, then when?

Would be ridiculous if I have to have funky hair when I was older!

So yes, I’ve decided to head down to my sponsor salon, Headlines Hairdressing 🙂

Charles, my hair stylist and the Creative Director, did inform me beforehand that pink is not as lasting as other colours such as purple, but I knew what I wanted and went ahead with pink anyway. 🙂

The pink hair dye is from Goldwell Elumen 🙂

Goldwell® Elumen®
Goldwell® Elumen® Color is a hair color that illuminates the hair inside out to achieve unique and creative results as well as stunning colors that clients request in your salon every day.
Its unique technology makes Elumen Color a physical color, which means that it works entirely without oxidising but still achieves spectacular and long-lasting color results.

-Sharp, fresh brilliant colors
-Exceptional shine
-Incredible durability
-Amazing, healthy looking hair

What is so amazing when dyeing hair with Headlines, especially with Charles is that every penny spent is well-worth! Just take a look at the colours! Previous pictures above only captured a single colour tone but look at how different it is when light rays are captured and reflected off them!
I love how the shade is not just one plain boring colour tone but contains of at least 2 funky and vibrant undertones as well!

You can see that other than fuchsia, it actually glimmers with orangey undertone as well! That’s like paying 2 colours for the price of 1! Totally worth it! 😀

My 2nd Sculptra treatment session with Celevenus Wellness & Aesthetic Clinic!

Sponsored Advertorial

It has been 2 months since my last Sculptra treatment with Celevenus Wellness and Aesthetic Clinic.

If you would recall, Sculptra helps to achieve global facial volume replacement through natural collagen stimulation with l-poly-lactic acid. Known as ‘the liquid facelift’, this treatment would substantially increase the collagen of your skin to correct the folds, wrinkles and skin laxity as a consequence of aging. The result looks and feels more natural than what fillers can do, and can potentially last twice as long.

Here is a progress stage comparison for easy reference :

sculptra compare

From the above picture, you can see the obvious changes after the 1st treatment session where I’ve developed a ‘fuller’ cheeks and a more volumised face shape.

As mentioned in my previous post, 1 treatment session is usually not enough to achieve the ideal face shape. Also, as the stimulation of your natural collagen requires some time and constant stimulation, it is common for the swelling to reduce after just 1 session as advised by Dr Dylan Chau who is a Sculptra trainer for doctors and takes his anti-aging treatments to a whole new realm.

Comparing my side profile before any treatment and my side profile 2 months later, you can actually see some difference. My cheek is not as relatively indent anymore, but somehow sunken.

I went back for my 2nd session at Celevenus and here is the immediate effect aftermath.

This was taken before the 2nd treatment started.

My side profiles :

Right cheek

A comparison between a ‘before’ and ‘after’ Sculptra treatment :

Photo 7-12-13 1 48 27 pm

You can actually see that the right side is more plump up after the treatment.

It is more obvious if you view it from the side profile.

Photo 7-12-13 1 51 00 pm

To provide a better comparison, here is a side by side pictures of my right side profiles, before and after the treatment :

And now for the left side profile :

Photo 7-12-13 1 18 01 pm-horz

And this is how my front view look :

Photo 7-12-13 2 25 41 pm

Photo 7-12-13 2 26 04 pm

Pardon the yellow light. It was taken right after my treatment and after touching up some light make-up.

Celevenus has a dressing room that provides personal space as they understand how self-conscious ladies would be after their treatments, thus catering to customers’ needs. Very thoughtful, I must say. 🙂

Comparison of before and after treatment of my front view profile :

cats

Oh yes, another benefit that I derived from the Sculptra treatment is that it helps in reducing the appearance of my nasolabial folds!!!

I cannot stand looking at the mirror with these annoying folds staring hard back at me, wondering how to eradicate them and now I can with the help of Sculptra! On top of that, I’ve tried various anti-ageing products and also to apply them in the usual outwards and upwards lifting motion to defy the gravity but to no avail. I am quite sure these folds are caused by both ageing and loss of facial volume, which gradually became more and more prominent.

I am extremely glad that Sculptra has help to erase, if not significantly reduce them.

The swelling will subside gradually but through natural collagen stimulation with l-poly-lactic acid, Sculptra treatment would substantially increase the collagen of your skin to correct the folds, wrinkles and skin laxity as a consequence of aging. Following an average of three treatment sessions over a few months, or Dr Dylan Chau recommends, can produce a more natural, younger looking appearance that can last more than 2 years or 25 months.

Tell me how can I not be anything more than elated when I’m about to experience a ‘time travel back into the past’ with my skin’s age and appearance?  😉

Look younger with Sculptra treatment!

Sponsored Advertorial

If you have been following me on my facebook page or have been reading my blog, or through my pictures, you would know that my face shape is not very ideal. My cheeks are quite sunken in due to the weight lost from puberty and my recent weight loss as well.

This was how I looked like pre-puberty. I know, it doesn’t look like me at all and looks as if I’ve undergone the knife, but no I didn’t. I just lost weight and learnt the beauty of make-up that’s all. HAHA!

I have lost about 3kg recently which is not really a big deal, but it shows on my face.

As you may have already known, not everyone loses weight the same way as others. For myself, I lose my fats on my cheeks relatively quicker than the rest of my body parts, as well as my tummy. But it is a common problem that most ladies find it difficult to target spot areas on arms and thighs.

The truth is, you can’t.

After losing weight, you may have already lost fats and muscle mass, which in result causes flabs.

That is why you see flabs on your arms, thighs and stomach.

Hence, both cardio (lose fats) and toning (muscles strengthening) are equally important and should work simultaneously.

After wearing braces for about 6 months, my protruding jaw has been pushed back, though I would not say it is 100% successful. However, this could also be due to my skeletal structure and shape.

As I have sunken cheeks, naturally the mouth and jaw area would seem to protrude.

You can that my front view profile :

Photo 16-12-2012 11 18 18 AMPhoto 12-07-2013 02 57 56 PM

And it looks worse when I don’t smile :

Photo 13-07-2013 05 17 08 PM

My side profile is worse, especially with the protruding jaw. The sunkenness is more obvious when viewed from the side.

Photo 12-08-2013 11 03 52 AM

However, as a resident blogger at My Fat Pocket, I was very fortunate to be given the opportunity to try out Sculptra treatment with Dr Dylan Chau, who is a Sculptra trainer for other doctors, from Celevenus Wellness & Aesthetics Clinic.

What is this treatment about?

To summarize, it is a type of filler, injected with  l-poly-lactic acid to help stimulate and encourage facial growth via natural collagen production. By ‘natural’, it means that the collagen formed comes from your own tissue. Besides being able to achieve facial volume, Sculptra is also able to target other common areas due to loss of facial volume and ageing problems such as wrinkles, folds and skin laxity.

Extracted from Celevenus Wellness & Aesthetics Clinic, these are the common problems that Sculptra can help treat.

Sculptra Treatment Areas

Sculptra is suitable for:

– Deep folds between the nose and the mouth (nasolabial folds) also called smile lines

– The lines framing your mouth (marionette lines)

– Sunken & droopy cheeks

– Sunken temples

– Eye bags & dark eye circles caused by sunken tear troughs

– Skin laxity

As for my case, due to loss of facial volume, my cheeks are not only sunken, I have nasolabial folds too which I suspect is a combination of not only loss of facial volume but also dehydration and ageing. Yes, sadly I have already reached the age where ageing has commenced. 😦

Having sunken cheeks is really unsightly because not only it makes you look haggard and older than you really are, you look tired as well. Also, my jaws a quite angular which Dr Dylan did comment that angular jaws result in a more masculine appearance. Femininity should include a more rounded apple cheeks. Just think about Fann Wong and her rosy high apple cheeks.

But please note that Sculptra may not achieve high cheeks like hers because it is dependent on many other factors such as your skeletal structure, your own tissue to produce collagen etc.

Similar to other filler treatments, injections and needles are involved and it is best to get someone to accompany you for reasons below.

  1. There will be some pain, blood, swelling involved and each individual’s body may response differently.
  2. You may need comfort and assurance from someone you can trust…by squeezing their hand. I think I’d almost broke my bf’s bones…LOL!
  3. Although there will be numbing cream applied prior to treatment, the filler itself contains some dosage of local anesthetic, so you will feel drowsy. That was also the reason why I looked so ‘sian’ in the pictures, half way throughout, I was very drowsy.  But the condition will subside shortly after the treatment and does not affect daily activities.

Firstly, if you’d applied makeup, they will help remove it and then apply numbing cream first. After letting it set for 30 to 60 mins, you will then be called in for the treatment.

IMG_6652

During the waiting time for the numbing cream to take effect, you can actually wait at the small lounge or just wait outside at the reception. Don’t worry, there will be many others who will have creams on their faces as well, so in that context, you will still look ‘normal’.

Then the treatment would take place.

Was waiting for Dr Dylan’s arrival and chatting with MFP’s editor Bianca and my bf 🙂 And trying to stay calm…

IMG_6646

Prior to the day of the treatment, I have consulted and cleared my doubts before agreeing to be treated. So do clarify every single doubt you have, especially since it involves needles and it’s your face we are talking!

And off we proceeded with the treatment!

During treatment :

IMG_6631

Close-up :

IMG_6630

There will be loads of injections poking here and there so do be warned. It is still bearable but still good to have someone’s warm hands to hold…and squeeze. They would also provide stress balls should you not have a hand to squeeze. But I prefer squeezing my bf’s hand… 😛

IMG_6626

After one side of my face was done, the drowsy effect started to kick in.

20131113-011249-pm.jpg

In this picture, I was already done with my left side. Can you see the difference between the two sides? One sunken and the other more plumped up? Besides my plumped up cheeks, my laugh line and nasolabial line on the left are less obvious and prominent.

After treatment :

IMG_6639

IMG_6637 IMG_6638

As the liquid substance is injected into your skin, you will need to constantly massage them as previously mentioned to prevent lumps from occurring.

There will be a massage session by their staff. Also you will be required to massage daily 5 times for 5 mins for the next 5 days.

The staff at Celevenus will advise on the correct method and motion of the massage.

Post-massage :

This is how I looked for the next few days 🙂

IMG_6620

IMG_6617

IMG_6619

Yes, there will be little bumps because of the injection holes but I guess can be covered by makeup, so not to worry.

I wasn’t really getting used to the ‘new look’ as first because afterall, I’ve lost most of my cheeks since puberty…

It was weird seeing these ‘old friends’ of mine and best thing is, I can see my cheeks when I look down! LOL!

So, which do you think looks better?

Photo 13-07-2013 05 17 08 PM-horz

Before:

20131113-011257-pm.jpg

After :

20131113-011242-pm.jpg

And of course, there will be bruises. My bruises were considered relatively better than other patients but they lasted for quite long. This also varies individually, especially if you are the type who bruises easily… I was advised to avoid taking omega-3 and aspirin as the latter thins the blood. In addition, using a heat pad or something warm to press against the bruises would help. I made a mistake by using ice on the bruise but ice should be used to cool and calm down angry swells and not bruises. You may also google on how to reduce the bruises. 🙂

But your temporary best bet would be makeup. Concealer and foundations would come in extremely handy to cover them up should there be a need to. If possible, perhaps taking a few days off from work would be good.

After 3 weeks post-treatment, this is my latest look :

IMG_6594

IMG_6593

Do not be alarm should you see a decrease in facial volume or if your face reverted back to its original form because one session is definitely not enough.

The facial volume might have been lost but my nasolabial folds around my mouth have reduced significantly. I am impressed with such effect despite only undergoing 1 session!

Depending on the desired result and severity of the conditions of each individual, it is recommendable to complete 2 to 4 sessions in order to achieve the optimum result that can last for more than 25 months!

As with other fillers, the substance is dissolvable and will be broken down via your own body’s metabolism. This is normal so don’t worry.

I will be going for my second session in December and hopefully I will look better and younger by Christmas (taking into account the recovery for bruises).

Yay to younger looking skin! 🙂

Amazed and very pleased with LipoCryo (fat freezing) !

Sponsored Advertorial

Hola! It’s been 3 weeks since my last treatment with Dr Phua on LipoCryo which is fat freezing process, and boy am I super excited to share some good news with you guys! 🙂

Those who are following my facebook fan page would have already received 1st hand updates on this, but I’m still gonna share the results and progress here! 🙂

Here is a comparison on the stats so far :

fat

Based on the above, here are the findings :

1. My body fat % reduced from 25.1% to 24.3%, although my desirable fat % still ranges from 17-24%!

2. My fat mass reduced from 12.2 to 11.4!
3. The circumference of my left arm was 10 inches and is now 9.2 inches! A total reduction of 0.8 inches!
4. The circumference of my right arm was 11 inches and is now 9.8 inches! A total reduction of 1.2 inches!
5. The circumference of my thighs remains the same which is most probably be due to my running exercise. Dr Phua also mentioned that the fats on the thighs are more stubborn and difficult to reduce compared to the arms.
These are the results after a 3-week review. Of course, as mentioned on my blog post (http://blog.myfatpocket.com/jeangan/lipocryo-fat-freezing-with-dr-vanessa-phua/), you will need to exercise and have a healthy diet.
Disclaimer : I’ve been trying to reduce my calories and carbo intake but of course, there were days I couldn’t resist yummy food too or pitied my poor growling stomach, and so heck it! I had sweet and fattening food too during these 3 weeks. My weight, although stated as 48kg previously and now I’m weighing 46.8kg is not accurate because the first measurement 3 weeks ago was taken after I had a heavy breakfast from Macs and today, I went on an empty stomach. I do weigh myself first thing in the morning so 46.8kg has been my weight since. No weight loss in kg but I did lose inches on my problematic areas!
I’m now on my second treatment for the arms only because they bother me more than my thighs!
I am of course very pleased with the results despite only undergoing the first treatment and it’s only 3 weeks after the treatment!
*Pardon for the blurred attachment because the ink has faded but you can still see some figures there.
So, yes hopefully after the 2nd treatment, which I had only done on my arms this time round due to time constraint (total duration for both arms is 1hr), my arms would reduce further in size! In the mean time, I would still continue with my cardio and resistance training and try and be more regular and consistent…
Cheers to slimmer and toner arms !!! 😀
*Please note that results vary individually and time taken for results to be effective and visible vary as well.
Dr Phua’s prices for LipoCryo:

$500 per segment, and a package of $400×10 segments.

Consultation is $98 and above.

I went ahead to have my nails done with simple designs which can prove to be very alluring as well. ‘Simplicity takes it all’ mindset is sometimes better than having overwhelming designs and 3D embellishments occupying all your nails.

I like the ‘shirt’ design on my fingernails. They are cute and still somewhat a head-turner, as well as the adorable innocent looking red and white polka dots on my toes nails! Still reliving the National Day spirit I see! icon razz Manicure and Pedicure with Prettify Me The Nail Therapy!

Lotte Koala’s March Biscuit Choco Ball

I have a confession.

Before Hello Panda topped my snack-list, my first love was actually Lotte Koala’s March biscuits in chocolate flavour!

And because I didn’t know they had a new flavour – Milk, I was still obsessed with Hello Panda’s… but now they have it in milk flavour too! Not sure if I’m the only lagging one here though.

As shown, they have these flavours (left to right) : Milk, Strawberry and the original Chocolate!

They have very cute different characters imprinted of a Koala bear on every biscuit!

And each biscuit is filled with yummy fillings! 🙂

I never knew this could happen until this challenge of shaking the whole box of Koala’s March vigorously for approx 20-30mins to achieve a result of a huge chocolate ball like this :

Of course, you will need loads of patience (and time!) to do this…

But I’m sure many of us would prefer to have our cute little biscuits eaten the old conventional way which is piece by piece! 🙂

I don’t think I will be able to give up any, be it Hello Panda or Koala’s March because both of them have their own uniqueness, so yes hello to more calories!

Movie Review : Red 2

Media Event

I was invited to catch Red 2 in its sneak previews at Shaw Lido yesterday and because the bf and I caught Part 1 previously (which I have no recollection of due to my STM 😦 ), the bf wanted to watch Red 2.

It was a 2-hr movie and we thought it was a little draggy. I guess it was also due to the lack of sleep recently and we rushed down to catch the movie after work.

Brief Info on the movie :
RED 2
Action | Comedy | Crime
Release Date: 1 August 2013
Directed by Dean Parisot
Starring Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Byung Hun Lee, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren

Rated PG-13 for pervasive action and violence including frenetic gunplay, and for some language and drug material

Run time : 116 mins

Synopsis :

In RED 2, the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world—and stay alive in the process.

My Review :

Despite it being a little draggy (2hr-movie is a little too long for us), we really did enjoy the movie. There were moments when I caught myself covering my ears because I cannot take thrilling moments. It’s yet another action-packed movie (my favourite genre) that got my 100% attention throughout the movie 🙂

The graphic images, together with its impactful action choreography and its awesome movie sound quality, Red 2 is definitely a show that I think would top the ticket box office!

Of couse, a movie that is highly-charged won’t be able to capture the hearts of the audience without some humour and Red 2 has consistently injected humour at certain movie scenes. Psst, you need to balance out the high energy too you know. You can’t be having excessive actions and thrillers in the whole movie. There needs to be some light-heartening moments as well 🙂

On top of that, this movie is rated PG13 and thus suited for the faint-hearted (like me and although as mentioned there were times when my heart palpitated due to the thrills, it was bearable). Nothing gory or gruesomely violent, so parents, you don’t have to worry much 🙂

4 stars
